Utah Jazz have a different plan for Taylor Hendricks

Utah Jazz media day is over and we got some interesting news from Taylor Hendricks that he had gained something like 21 pounds. If Hendricks is putting on that weight and knows that he’s going to have specific roles on offense, it’s clear that he has a specific position that’s going to help him succeed this NBA season.

  1. I dont think hes gonna be a longterm 5, but a smallball 5 for shorter stints definitely makes sense. He had a lot of trouble getting knocked off his path while driving last year, putting on some muscle will help with that and wont necessarily make him meaningfully slower(could do the opposite).

I could be wrong, it might even be that they havent decided but are leaving open the option for his transition to the 5.

  2. Lauri is 240 and still spends a ton of time at the wing. Hendricks is a bit shorter so 230 (basketball reference had him at 210 last season) yeah he will guard the 5 better but it doesn’t remove him from the 3. For reference Bam is 255.
