  1. Should Wemby keep developing this perimeter-heavy style? 🤔 Let us know your opinion in the comments below! ✍

  2. Sky is the limit, post game would be interesting to watch, be he need to be able to shoot threes and he likes it. The passing aspect is very nice, he s serving the team. He must build resistance in his body to last.

  3. By adding the number of 3p attempts, it can open up so much for the Spurs offense. Victor's up-fake is going to be his signature move when it's all said and done. Because his hands are so big, that up-fake is just his natural shooting motion that he stops before releasing the ball when he notices a defender closing out. Now defenders have to pick between having a guy glued to Victor at all times (to try and stop the entry pass on those catch and shoot 3s), or leaving a help defender in the paint. If they go with the former, Victor is a good passer who's going to find a cutter, if you leave the guy in paint and Victor's 3p shot keeps developing, Victor may very well end up with more rings than Duncan….

  4. I believe that Coach Pop is currently establishing wemby as a 3pt threat so that when the time comes he can start working in the paint with a lot more space because the opponent is too afraid to let him shoot

  5. Keep him out of the paint when you can for now, can't risk him getting beaten up as he slowly and cleverly adds the bulk. The endgame Wemby is possibly the greatest talent ever

  6. Everyone wants him to play like traditional big men of past. So it will be easy to compare him to traditional big men. His trademark is HE IS NOT YOUR TRADITIONAL BIG MAN. That’s the whole hype about Wemby! DUH

  7. My problem with Perkins is he wants Wemby plays like a normal dominant central or the french guy is a alien

  8. I'm glad somebody gets it. Work on 3s while he builds up strength. After he's stronger, post game work. All the while working on reducing turnovers and improving his handles. The Spurs are trying to build a 2 way demon who can score on all 3 levels and defend basically anyone. They are telling him to shoot so much because he needs the in game reps. Let my Spurs cook goddammit!

  9. I have no problem with Wemby shooting 3s. However, they need another quality big in the paint to really take advantage of that. Then the defense has to commit to him. Send a guard, Wemby will just shoot over him. Send a big, pass inside. Can you imagine if Chet and Wemby were on the same team? That would be insane.

  10. The whole thing with Wemby when he got drafted was that he’s a 7’5” monster who will dominate on defense and in the paint but can also shoot the 3 ball and play-make almost like a PG. This has always been the plan. It’s gonna be some short term growing pains while he gets used to shooting more 3s but the payoff will be huge once he reaches his prime.

  11. Well, the problem with pretending Wemby to play like Giannis is that he just doesn't have Giannis' muscle yet.

Constantly banging with opposing bigs for position in the post isn't as simple. Why would the Spurs make him wear himself out so easily?

The Spurs are not aiming for the championship this year, and it makes way more sense to use the early years of Wembanyama to develop his tools for when the Spurs actually become a contender.

Best case scenario for the team would be to contend on Wemby's year 4 or 5. So there's still another 3 years of development ahead for Wembanyama.

  12. The last game vs the Kings is a good example of how his 3pt threat opens up lanes to drive and dish. He had 11 assists along with 5 made 3s

  13. Nobody points out this obvious strategic advantage: Wemby shooting deep 3's lets the DPOY quickly get back on defense also.

Also he conserves a ton of energy for later in the game when it matters the most. Running from paint-to-paint every play is difficult with his frame, and he tires quickly.

  14. Like someone has already mentioned in the comments, it wasnt only the inconsistency. He was taking bad shots. Improving decision making is something that elevates his game the most. I know he can shoot the 3, but choose the right moment and its ok.

  15. it is quite simple really, a 5 that can reliably shoot 3s as a medium to high volume while playing good defense and protecting the rim is one of the best asset you can have in the modern nba.

I don't really like seing Wemby shoot so many 3s either but if that help hime pass the threshold of 40% on 3s I will take it. It will also help him to cause some doubt in the opposing defence to drive to the basket if they take his shooting seriously

  16. Everyone has spent the last two szns saying what the spurs should and shouldn't do. They need to trade for this guy, they need to get that dude, they need to retire pop, they need to get wemby off the 3 point line, wemby needs to get in the paint, the Jeremy PG experiment didn't work, ect ect…. But I think when it comes to the Spurs ppl gotta let them do their thing. They have a proven track record of knowing what they're doing.

  17. Wemby's gonna join the Point-center class of players. Gona be enjoyable watching him and Jokic go head-to-head in Conference finals in 1-2 years.

  18. Kid has the potential to be the greatest all around player the league has ever seen. Wild.

  19. It's a pity to waste all this talent to only make him a physically dominant center. His body is built to be slender. His strength comes from his agility and versatility. It's impressive how can stretch and bend his body, especially for someone so tall. He needs of course to put on muscle but i hope he keeps a good balance between strength and agility. If he puts on too much muscle he might lose his agility. I think pop knows how valuable his all round skills are.

  20. its working.
next batch of new players we'll see 7'5s moving like point guards
now guards need to step up

  21. People are forgetting that the more 3s he takes is a less chance of an injury. If he’s under the post, it’s a injury waiting to happen

  22. I agree with all the wemby praise but can’t compare that to lebron….. play making wasn’t as good as it is now but it was LEVELS above regular pgs and that wasn’t even his position…he was not a post player so of course his post game wasn’t as developed. And his game being based on athleticism was highly successful because of the level of athleticism he possessed.

  23. No one wants to conclude that it was the damn fake Olympics that screwed up WemVP's development. Ban the Olympics for NBA players. As for WemVP's weight, if he gains too much that could not only slow him down but also cause leg problems down the road like other players who were over 7' tall. Yao Ming, e.g. WemVP is going to be a Stephen Curry in the body of Manute Bol.

  24. He will be a top 3 player next season. The guy is just so talented.

  25. surely him shooting makes more sense no one can possibly contest him. he’s taking open 3s whenever he shoots

  26. "it'd be a waste of his size if he doesn't play inside". No, it'd be a waste if he doesn't shoot threes. His threes are virtually incontestable. Actually, it'd be a waste of his size if he can't do everything.

  27. Im super critical on wemby but I always have to remind my self this guy is barely even a year older them me
