No, because the sixers were going nowhere without Embiid anyways. Any player worth a max on Maxey's timeline is locked up until he gets a new deal and his new deal will come the same time Embiid's does. It would be a bad deal if the sixers wanna trade Embiid, but if they really wanted to do that then they're 2 years too late. At this point I see Embiid riding it out with the sixers for his career and being part of some of the biggest WHAT IFs in the NBA. I do see the sixers pushing the youth movement by necessity and maybe in year 2 of PG if stuff really isn't working out deal him to a desperate team. At least they only had to give up cap to get him.

We can all be monday morning quarterbacks, but what's distasteful is the dishonesty from the sixers to its fans and the league. There should be an investigation the public diserves that.
This is all Monopoly money… the owners are Billionaire's. This is what the NBA medical exemption clause is for. If they enact the clause and Embiid doesnt play for 1 year they can waive him and NONE of the money will count against the cap if the injury is determined to be "career ending". They signed him to an extension because they wanted to get that new arena built and wanted the city to think the team was going tp be competitive for the next couple of years with him. As Chase Srm just said… his contract before the extension would take him to 2026… the extension is 3 years which takes him to 2029 ( at 35 years old) The new stadium is set to open in 2030. Giving him the extension was a political move with the bigger motive of getting the deal for thr new stadium DONE, which is what happened so mission accomplished.
These Billionaire's are Billionaire's for a reason… they play Chess not checkers with this shit. They made a small sacrifice having to pay Embiid the rest of his money (even if he's hurt) to accomplish a bigger goal of owing a brand new stadium in the middle of downtown and dont owe nobody shit because they paid for it outright, no state money.
