just having klay on the floor itself its a plus for kai and luka, one reason why theyre getting a lot of one on ones (in which theyre successful) is the defenders cant just give a help defense coz they cant leave klay open.

Pj also had great games when Klay was injured. They all did.
The way I see it is that as long as Klay serves at least the Role Peja did in the 2011 championship run, where he was instrumental to dispose of the Lakers and hit some timely 3’s the other series, this Dallas team will be Ok because we have deep in Klays position.
One of the biggest reasons we brought Klay in was for the Playoffs and for Boston! The Mavs could have won regular season games with the same team. You absolutely don’t trade Klay until at least a year and see how he contributes in the playoffs. Lastly, I think most people are talking trash about Klay recently because of him being out for like 4 games and the recent play of Marshall, Dinwiddie and Grimes. Now people feel we don’t need him. All these fake GM’s need to sit down somewhere! Some of these same people were saying get rid of Luka when he was out and we were winning!
Agree with this!!!! Complaining while we are on a streak! Let’s go Mavs!!! I say kidd knows what he’s doing everyone will get hot at some point! Deep roster!

I think the discourse comes from Klay looking more like our 7th man instead of our 3rd but that's a luxury to have him. I don't like the Luka/Kyrie/Klay lineups so far or Klay in closing lineups (watch him get scored on multiple times on Ja) so if he can fit into a role like Naji and Grimes already have then that's great . Plus his plantar fascia could be a bigger problem than we think I think AD has a similar case and had a slump

I like my team. Mavs are really good at the moment. Klay will continue to improve as the season goes along and will be important in the playoffs
I dont really see any problem with Klay right now. Our current starting lineup has a NetRtg of +21.5 in 70 minues (not that big of a sample size, but still…) The Luka/Thompson 2 man combination has a NetRtg of +11 in over 405 minutes. And thats with Luka and Thompson not even playing their best basketball. We are more then fine with Thompson in the starting lineup, no need to even think about anything else.
Same is (to a way lesser extend) true about Maxi. Maxi with Gafford has a positive NetRtg, Maxi with Lively has a pos NetRtg, Maxi as the lone big has a pos NetRtg… and all that while Maxi does basically nothing on offense. So unless we get someone in with the EXACT SAME skillset, just being more healthy/younger, I am not interested in a trade either. Means a mobile guy who is big enough to defend centers and bigger wings, while being able to stretch the floor on offense, AND who isnt injury prone.
The only somewhat reasonable option I see out there is Nance Jr. Although he also was injured basically the last 2 seasons. Other then that? I dont see a real option for a Maxi replacement…

I really wanna see Naji mixed into this healthy roster. Feel like him & PJ can really be the glue guys for the 1st & 2nd units. That's kinda where Dinwiddie has stepped up while Naji has been out. Adding Naji into the mix really could allow Kidd to go with a LuKai-less lineup.
He's already been doing it some and it scares the shit outta me…especially with Hardy being good for a couple of turnovers. But then they always settle things down and somehow are able to even win those minutes. But if you've got Spence & Naji, Grimes, Lively/Gafford, and Maxi then I'm not biting my nails as the seconds go by.
It would be nice if Maxi could find his shot or if Nico were somehow able to find some other Stretch 4/5 player. Maxi & Hardy are kinda hard to watch lately. It's so bad with Maxi that I kinda feel like the Powell small-ball lineup is the better one. And I really can't wait for Exum to get back.
Like would the Heat be willing to take Maxi & Hardy for Love? I know the salaries don't work but it is an expiring deal & a really young player who MAY figure it out one day. Toss in a 2nd, whatever. Or if anyone knows of a better Stretch 4/5 I could be talked into "Effing those Picks" and trying to build for this 2-3 year wide open window and sad that OMax doesn't seem to fit that window.
I feel like THEN when everyone is healthy, you've got a HELLUVA team. Luka/Spence, Ky/Exum, Klay/Grimes, PJ/Naji, Lively/Gafford, Love, Powell, OMax?, Morris, Gortman, Edwards.
Klay's stint with the Mavs has gone exactly how I imagined it would go so far and I am totally okay with it. The team is winning and clearly doesn't need him to shoot as much. He doesn't need to be the prolific scorer that he was when he was with GS and that still doesn't resonate with people for some reason.
