Syracuse basketball fails to hit a 3-pointer, drops ACC opener at Notre Dame
Brent Axe recaps Syracuse basketball’s 69-64 loss to Notre Dame on Saturday afternoon.
The Orange failed to hit a 3-pointer in a game (0-9) for the first time since 2014 in South Bend which was a big factor in the loss along with SU’s 16-of-24 mark at the #FreeThrowsMatter line.
Brent also discusses how SU head coach Adrian Autry is changing SU’s lineup around like they were hockey lines and that is leading to a growing frustration with the SU fan base. Donnie Freeman (20 points 11 rebounds) and Jyare Davis (20 points) played well as did SU point guard Jaquan Carlos (8 points, 7 assists) to overcome some recent struggles.

He is not playing like a veteran. Might as well play someone else and hope for someone to hit some 3s.
lol at calling people that pay you “insiders”. But there’s much bigger issues than that. Two losing seasons in four years and missing five of the last six ncaa tournaments. And the program is the most irrelevant it’s been since Dave Bing coming. Just awful.
It’s coaching plain and simple.

Eddy does what he can being limited but I'm more concerned with the lack of identity with this team and the lack of permitter shooting. No defense and reds subbing which I was blaming on him but there is much more to be concerned with than the coach trying to put together a team when u have veteran players who seem to have forgotten how to play the basic fundamentals of basketball

Albany is a big game. They lose at home to Albany then it's a building year for next season and people aren't going to the Dome this season. Is what it is. Winning has a thousand fathers, but losing is an orphan. Go Cuse!!!! 🍊🏀
Christ Bell and Carlos are the players that's underperforming, not Donnie Freeman. Autry is going to go down as the worst coach of all time at Syracuse; Next year players and Melo will help Syracuse win games, but Autry may get all the credit.
How do anybody knows what McLeod can do , if Autry refuses to play him???? Or Westry??? Why recruit players, if you're not going to "Properly"utilize them???
SU seems like they have no coaching at all, they have no reliable jump shooter on the team, they have no reliable 3 point shooter, no one that can make a free throw on a routine basis. I think Autry needs to be fired if he cannot turn it around by the end of the year, enough is enough.

Such a disappointing team. I was just thinking. I’ve been following Cuse hoops since the 71/72 season. Used to listen to the games on the radio. Was rare to see them on tv until the big east and ESPN. Even then was just several games a year. So many years of not just good, but really exciting teams to watch. Now with the internet and ESPN+ the last few years I get to watch every game. And it’s so painful to see. I’ll keep watching and hoping, but the hope dims. This is the worst team they’ve had since I’ve been following. But hope for next year if Donnie and Chopper stick around. I’m not giving up on Red yet. Have to give a coach time. It’s not like he inherited the 2010 team.

Never imagined our basketball program would fall this low… I’m not sure if this team could win 10 games…
The margin for error is small. A rebound here, a free throw there, a 3 or two, a turnover… They have to play for 40 minutes but you feel they just won't get there even if they do.
Did you notice the extreme overplay on Carlos? Bell got to the basket but missed free throws. They played better defense but still lost.
We're very critical of Coach Red but the reality is when we left the Big East it went south. It has been bad for a decade. Now what, two more years three years…. That whole what to do with Coach JB retiring.
When butts aren't in the seats the end will be near. Reminds me of Gtown.
Watching Coach Red just sitting the last few minutes instead of using those time outs to do some coaching was inexcusable.
This is not a good team. The talent is not there. They struck out in the portal. Remember,Lampkin played games to get paid but has played great in one game-a loss. Looks like many empty seats on Wed nights in the dome.Unfortunately ,Red will probably need to be let go at some point. I believe he deserves 3 years but say they miss the ACC tourney ???
You may wonder if they practice free throws but I wonder if they practice ANYTHING!
