Mailbag: Hey Jason, had something to pick your brain about. Do you think teams are more injury prone this season? And if so, do you think that's a matter of less practicing around the league? I've heard a lot of former NBA players weigh in on this, and they seem to all be in lock step about what the cause is. A lot of soft tissue injuries, and that's due to less practicing, playing less in the preseason, and more just going from 0 to 100 when the regular season starts. What are your thoughts?
Bench Murray; start Russ.
As a Nuggets fan it's truly surreal to see the game's best player being wasted by an organization that lives in mortal fear of the second apron. Jokic is by miles the best player in franchise history yet his prime is washing away because he's carrying a roster that would be putting pingpong balls in the draft lottery. So frustrating š¢
Calvin booth ruined the team payed Zeke nnaji $32 million, signing Murray to a max after horrible Olympics and playoffs, Dario saric $11 million
Jokic is dropping 50 points games because he has to to do it.
Hey jason love the pod its my daily watch! i have a mailbag question that i for sure NEED your take on more than any other analyst out there ! i want your take on another pod's take on gobert's value. to sum it up the take was "defensive versatilty is undervalued and rim protection is over valued". what do you think about that?
All negative on the Cavs lol
nba mailbag: why is it you consider luka better than giannis..giannis has the championship edge, multiple mvpās, dpoy trophy/all-nba defensive teams, & actually competes on defense while being the leagues leading scorer..not sure thereās ever been a time in the nba when a guy with those accolades at the peak of his powers isnāt considered top 2 in the world..Lukaās 30/40 point triple doubles are awesome, but that would be like putting prime james harden over lebron simply because of the offensive brilliance/volume of stats (in a haleocentric offense)..usually their teams fall short in the postseason due to their awful defense
Re Westbrook, I had forgotten what a great play maker he was when younger. It's like he's been rejuvenated. Jason's right about the importance of him getting explosively downhill in the two man game, but what's struck me and surprised me too is how fundamentally sound he's been as an entry and pocket passer. It's surprising in particular how few guards now are excellent entry passers. He sets the table for Jokic by so often hitting him in the perfect spots at the perfect time on the roll and in the post. It helps of course to know you're getting an assist every time you get the ball to Joker. Really fun to watch them play off each other in a way I just didn't expect.
I want people to go check who has bene the most valuable player on terms of team record with and without them since 2022
It's not jokic or Giannis. It's also not luka or LeBron
If LeBron or jokic had teams that were that bad without them and that good with them i can't imagine what people would claim .
Just came here waiting for Jason to give the grizzlies the respect they deserve.
This nets team has a lot of pre Durant and Kyrie Nets team vibes.
Play hard as a team.
Appealing destination for a star
Historic losses.
Jokic is sick of Denver nonsense. He decided to give up making assists and he will drop 50 instead.
Warriors are a trade away. I hope Bulls buy Lonzo out and Warriors can sign him off waivers
Hey Jason, obviously no stats can fully capture the nuances of what leads to wins/losses, but what would you say are the best metrics that correlate with success in todayās NBA? Huge fan of the show, thanks!
Mailbag- should lebron come off the bench ā?
Mailbag: how stupid and pathetic was that embiid mvp over joker š
How are the warriors who have the same record as the Knicks, the 12-11 bucks and 12ā10 heat ahead of the Knicks who have also have a better net rating then all of them? They also won 10 of their last 12?
Giannis is mvp
Dubs #9!? Ok⦠stay tuned dude
The team needs to shoot better if Jokic is going get his assist numbers up. Itās maddening how the Nuggets are wasting there opportunities
Yo Jason, what are your thoughts on the rumors that Jamal Murray aggressively pursued his extension while also coming into the last two seasons outta shape and unmotivated? Would the Nuggets consider trading him? The organization is public about moving Zeke Nnaji… could a package of Murray and Zeke yield a max level asset in return?
People donāt really understand basketball! Itās not about flashy moves or dunks but effectiveness. When it comes to it Jokic is statistically at the top in the history of NBA, very far behind him in second place is guess who? Jordan and close behind MJ is Lebron.
Enough said, if Jokic was to have a single all star teammate he would win multiple championships and be in the conversation for being the goat.
This way he is already top 15 best players of all time if he retires today.
Warriors 21:00
The jokic weāve seen this year is the greatest offensive player in NBA history. Just watch teams that play him, when he gets the ball you can just tell theyāre hopeless. There is nothing you can do. If he wants a bucket heās going to get a good look and even if you play perfect defense his shot is going to fall more often than itās not and you canāt even bring help or heāll destroy you with his incredible passing & basketball IQ.
Iām sick of people saying āyouāre glazingā when weāre being honest about Jokic. Nothing I just said was glazing Jokic, Iām a Boston fan; Iām about as close to a nuggets hater as youāll find but itās simply undeniable how great this man is. I can say with 100% confidence the Celtics are the best team in the NBA but at the same time, I am terrified of Jokic. Even with lesser talent he is playing at a level so much higher than everyone else I canāt even comprehend what you can possibly do to stop him other than pray the players he gets wide open looks canāt hit any of their shots. But hell as weāve seen last week you canāt even count on that because heāll just effortlessly drop 50 on you like itās just another day
MAILBAG QUESTION: Why don't the Warriors use pick and roll more often? Seems like when they stick to Steve Kerr's motion offense, they got bogged down and can't generate anything. When they stick to simple pick and roll, it seems like everything opens up. We saw this in their win versus the Rockets (heavy pick and roll with Kuminga and Wiggins), then in their loss versus Minnesota (motion offense returned), then in their win versus Minnesota (back to more pick and roll). Am I missing something? Is Steve Kerr missing something? Thanks love the show.
My lord the Jokic stuff is getting to be too much. The best offensive player ever is on pace to finish a 6-8 seed with MPJ, Gordon, Jamal, Russ, and Braun?
Bron? Kareem? Kobe? MJ? Bird? Curry? Fuck all those championships and all time carry jobs. Jokic losing with 56pts against the Wizards did it for me š. I wonāt be gaslit lol.
Btw I think Jokic is clearly the best in the world for years now, but this is getting insane. People have no limits with this guy. Great example of this is how flippantly people say Jokic is the best passer in the NBA. If you think itās that easy you donāt watch enough Mavs games.
Luka was going through these for years putting historic numbers last year was a great example and he didn't win MVP, because his team was bad, but for Jokic the standard always changes -what a fucking joke.
Donāt see how you can avoid talking about the Kings back to back 140 point games. With Monk in the starting rotation, Huerter becoming a threat off the bench and DeMar Derozan flowing better than ever with his new team. Kings could surprise a lot of people with this next stretch of games.
Last season, Luka had the best season of his career stat-wise (34ppg, almost 9rb 4asts top-10 stls), is league top scorer, but did not get enough votes because the Mavs finished ONLY 5th (yet 50 wins!) in a loaded West. Just like Westbrook when he won his MVP with OKC finishing only 6th in the West, and Jokic when he won his 2nd MVP with Nuggets finishing likewise at 6th, Jokic could probably win another one even if Nuggets are currently struggling at 7th.
So does winning (a lot) matter or not? As Nick Wright just pointed out a few days ago, the MVP narrative/criteria keeps changing.
Can we all agree that if Joker or Gianis donāt get to the third seed. They aināt winning shite.
Mailbag question: what is the lowest seed Nuggets can be, for Jokic to still earn his fourth MVP if Jokic keeps averaging a massive triple double?
Nikola ChamberlainoviÄ
i love watching basketball but i couldnt care less bout this lame gay ass made-up in-season-tournament…. NIKOLA JOKIC IS PLAYING SOME OF THE BEST BASKETBALL WE HAVE EVER EVER EVER SEEN, and yet we starting out with Dennis Schroder…. cmon my nigga. Maybe you can answer me why so many ppl hate on Joker btw……? is it as simple as not being American? or cause fans value athleticism over skill+talent so much…. personally, Jokic is the perfect example of a player proving why speed and verticality are so meaningless when it comes to greatness, yet everyone steady blowin guys like Ant Edwards who have proven NOTHING…. would love to know the answer to this conundrum
i will take jokic over giannis any day…. giannis shoots like shiiit…. dude literally gets 90% of his points dunking > no jump shot
if you take out the 80 foot heaves Joker shoots at the end of quarters, dude shooting like 70% from 3pt, insane!!!!
Jamal Murray has been terrible dating back to last year….. and Joker and Westbrook looking real good together right now playing the two man game
interesting how well Jokic is playing with Westbrook, with no other help on the team…… LeBron couldnt do shiit with Westbrook, AND they had another top 10 player in AD too
If Jokic wins 3 chips, I think he's better than Steph
nah LBJ was not no top 3 defensive player IN THE LEAGUE over a 10+ year span LMFAO, gtfoh bruh you must be watchin too much Shannon Sharpe LOL…. Jokic has been a better all around offensive player the last 5 years than i have seen from LBJ
JOKERS offensive efficiency rating in these last 5 years are insane….. everybody that was crying for Embiid over Jokic debate really DID NOT AGE WELL HUH LMFAO
