Ben Simmons-Boston Celtics talk DEBUNKED, plus front office rankings and appreciating this team

Are the Boston Celtics the only serious franchise in Boston sports? Host John Karalis of Boston Sports Journal tackles this bold question, debunking Ben Simmons trade rumors and exploring NBA front office rankings. With the Celtics’ impressive standing, Karalis highlights the strategic prowess of Brad Stevens and contrasts it with the Oklahoma City Thunder’s resourceful management under Sam Presti.

The episode also shines a light on Jayson Tatum’s potential rest and the Celtics’ consistent success amidst Boston’s sports landscape. Karalis passionately argues why the Celtics deserve more appreciation, especially when compared to the city’s other major sports teams.

  1. Forget the second apron rule, Celtics shoot 3s remember ???? There is no world he fits on this team

  2. I, thankfully, haven't noticed these, but I saw the How 'Bout guys also do a debunk stupid trade ideas video. I get it… but remember, we're letting idiots distract us. Again.

The idea that this 100% SET team myopically focused from owner-to-janitor on repeating a title would trade for a salary poison pill dysfunctional player like Simmons (if it were even possible)… I mean, we have to have THAT debunked? In what universe–even the most dystopian one–could this be possible? NONE.

  3. I've digressed from 1) wondering why we seem so stupid to 2) thinking we don't care that we're so stupid to 3) thinking we LUXURIATE in the fact we're so stupid.

  4. Yeah, I don’t know why this was even a debate. He doesn’t shoot threes and he’s not a center so that wouldn’t work for Mazzulla ball

  5. Thanks for the podcast John and yours is one of the few that I listen to. I live outside of the area and love the C’s mainly because of JT being from my area. (Sorry still a Cards fan though) 😆could we bring Smart back next year?

  6. I doubt I would want to see Ben Simmons on the Celtics, even at the vets minimum.

I have mental health issues myself. So I get his struggles and feel empathy for him on a personal level.

This doesn't excuse his poor play. This doesn't excuse refusal to develop a good jump shot.

I would rather see the Celtics convince Dwight Howard to come out of retirement to play for the Celtics in a backup role. Hell, I would rather see Reggie Miller come out or retirement to play in a backup role. I would rather see Larry Bird or DeMarcus Cousins or Horace Grant. Hell, even Shaq or Charles Barkley.

Any of them would be a better fit than Ben Simmons. Because with any of those guys, even as old as they are, even as slowed by age and injury they might be, you know you would get effort from them game after game.

There isn't a quit button on these guys. Simmons, it is M.O. to take his ball and go home instead of fighting to keep his mental health going in a way that lets him be the player he could have been. I would be scared that Ben would play 3 games and just leave until the Western Conference Finals and come back in terrible shape.

This is before getting into his one dimensional game when it comes to offense.

Then add the rule changes, this year it can't happen. I wouldn't want it for next season either.

  7. I would rank it as

    1. Boston
    2. OKC
    3. Miami
    4. Utah
    5. Houston
    6. Golden State
    7. New York
    8. Indiana
    9. San Antonio
    10. Denver
    11. Orlando
    12. Atlanta
    13. Sacramento
    14. Denver
    15. Dallas

In terms of the front office.

I don't really think I trust any other front office in the league to try and put together a great team right now. Maybe to improve a team, but not to get a great team together.

  8. Simmons on this team is a more athletic and better passing Queta. But, effort wise, give me Queta.

  9. ABSOLUTELY ‼️NOOOO‼️ TO BEN SIMMONS…IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM, NO NO NO! The idea of Ben Simmons in a Celtics Uniform has just ruined my morning..👎🏾🚫🚯⛔️🚷Because of this, I will now research the word NO in different languages😂😂😂😂

  10. Jaylen for Ben? Let's go‼ 😂. I would absolutely want Simmons for the minimum, that's a no-brainer. He can guard 1-5, is a top-10 passer in the entire NBA. Fantastic athlete. Would be an incredible pickup if it ever happened.

  11. Imagine Brad looking at Ben Simmons and thinking to himself, "Yes. That kind of work ethic is exactly what the organization needs right now."

  12. In hindsight, the whole process thing in Philly culminating in Embiid and Simmons is a perfect representation on how to not run a franchise lol

Give me the calculated, cold, callous approached. It hurts in the moment but man do the fruits of that tree taste bittersweet (sour, sweet, gone) ☘︎🔒

  13. Why discuss whether it is possible to trade for Ben Simmons when Brad Stevens would not take him for free? The guy is mentally irregular and can't be counted on and he's putting out bumpkiss for statistics. So why risk your locker room chemistry on that?

  14. Re: front office- most of the Celtics’ front office has been with the team for a loooong time. Mike Zarren and Austin Ainge have been part of building this team from the ground up. It’s the same group with a different boss.

The other thing is OKC hasn’t been better than mediocre for almost a decade. KD left in 2016. They’ve won one playoff series since then. Brad has won 9 in 3 seasons and the Celtics have won 16 playoff series since 2016. A 7 or 8 year rebuild is not great.

  15. There is no reason for any player to be resting you had 4 days off and 1 game you get another 4 days off. You get paid to play. They always resting players have hurt them in a few losses they have only had yhe whole team 2 games

  16. Simmons is like 3x more injury prone then Porzingis. And Porzingis actually helps us to win significantly!
