These Are NOT the Same Atlanta Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks have been disappointing ever since 2021. They traded for Dejounte Murray to play along Trae Young and that failed, they regressed, and ended up dealing Dejounte to the New Orleans Pelicans for Dyson Daniels in a trade package many people clowned. Now, the Hawks have beaten the New York Knicks to advance to the NBA Cup semifinals against Giannis Antetokounmpo, Damian Lillard, and the Milwaukee Bucks. Between the play of Trae Young, Dyson Daniels, Jalen Johnson, De’Andre Hunter, and others, the Hawks are back to looking formidable and may have saved their franchise with just a single trade. Let’s talk about it.

  1. I mean i am not that surprised the Hawks are looking really good. All Trae needed was some help so that he didn't need to shoot the ball 20 times. Trae can still get 30 at any given time, but since he is rather inefficient when doing so, its much better for the team when he focusses more on playmaking and doesnt have to force shots. Still worried about their overall defense though…

  2. the 3 wings (dyson, risacher, jj) are so nice around trae and i even have to say deandre hunter looks VERY good this szn so i gotta include him, the hawks are a fun watch for sure, trae been super nice playmaking wise tho his shooting splits are kinda down this szn but im sure those will go back up sometime, capela also looks nice, yea this team is fun

  3. Great Barrier Thief's brother Dash Daniels just signed with Melbourne United under the NBL's Next Star program for the 24/25 season. Should be super fun to watch his development.

  4. Trae Young is a generational offensive talent and a top 12 player in the league whether you guys like it or not

  5. Adding Dyson Daniels was huge he has been great for them on the defensive end and we know how good he is as a playmaker it’s a bit mind blogging that the Pelicans didn’t play him that much.

Deandre Hunter dude was an after thought and I think he was so bad last year that Hawks fans wanted him gone but now it looks like found his groove and is being I guess that third option next to Trae and Jalen

No words to say about Jalen he been fantastic for them on both ends and he should be an all star if the Hawks keeps up this pace

Trae Young is showing why he one of the best playmakers in the league with his assists weather he throwing lobs and making great passes when guys are cutting. The Hawks finally build a solid team around Trae that will make him most effective and that’s putting a bunch of solid 3 and D guys around him

Risache has also shown flashes that he can be a really good 3 and D player. He can be MPJ but he can play defense

So yeah the Hawks could be a dangerous team nobody wants to face in the playoffs in the east

  6. This might sound crazy but give Risacher 3 years and he will be best player on the team. Keep this team together.

  7. I actually appreciate that the Hawks are not as strong offensively as they have been in previous years because I believe it has led to a better overall team. Trae Young, as you mentioned, may never be the best defender on any team, but he has made some impactful defensive plays lately. Additionally, his rebounding has improved in recent games. If he can continue averaging five to six rebounds per game, along with 12 assists and 20 points, the Hawks will have a strong chance of making the playoffs as one of the top teams in the East—there’s no doubt about it!

Dyson Daniels’ defense is infectious; the effort he brings night after night has inspired the entire team. Suddenly, we see players sticking their hands out to intercept passes, positioning their bodies effectively to cut off screens, and playing a tougher brand of defense. This is a hallmark of a team that is well-gelled and cohesive.

  8. I'm still not convinced about this team. Their run to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2021 is already proven to be a fluke because they were never able to retain that level again.

  9. I am a Hawks fan and if I was the front office I would explore Ayton if I’m still trying to compete with Trae young. Ayton has the defense and rebounding needed for a hawks team with Trae but also comes with the upside with his offensive talent and ability to space better than Capela. He also has better general touch than Capela and can hit more shots in the lane on pick and roll opportunities. He also started shooting 3s occasionally and is making 3s occasionally. Ayton is a gamble but he’s the center on the market who has the biggest upside and best fit next to Trae. He also is the same age as Trae so with a center like Ayton you still give yourself a 5-6 year window to compete for a championship. If Jalen becomes an all star as well, we won’t need all star play from Ayton but just solid consistency and double doubles. Based on how Ayton plays with Trae the hawks can decide how they want to move with contracts as well.
