This Coach Found A Cheatcode For EuroLeague & NBA
Coach Tuomas Iisalo might have solved basketball. Look at his track record in the last 3 years: first, he won Champions League with Bonn Telekom Baskets. Then, he went to Paris & won Eurocup, displaying the best offensive rating ever. The Grizzlies immediately hired him as a lead assistant and now their offense are up from dead-last 30th spot to 5th-best in the NBA, while Memphis are 2nd in a super-stacked Western Conference. Oh, and his former team are rolling in the EuroLeague, counting 10 straight wins playing with his installed system. In this video, BasketNews’ Augustas Suliauskas takes a look at possibly the best basketball system in the world right now & the main points of it.

Need pt. 2
great vid, more iisalo please
If Bonn had more money we would be Euroleague club 💔
Faster the the speed of light, the clock remained at 23 seconds and they had already executed a set play
Sulia on fire 🔥
Great breakdown analysis! Thanks BasketNews!
Before analyzing Isalo analize MR Pedro Martinez who is the father of this game style.playing many years ago like this.
Augustus, of course you jinxed them by putting this our today….haha
You make it sound as if Iisalo is the key component in Memphis' success this season, but he is just one piece of the puzzle. The Memphis Grizzlies had made another great addition to their coaching staff, Noah LaRoche.
LaRoche's offense, to my eyes, is being utilized more than Iisalo's system. I highly recommend you check him out. Both his and Iisalo's systems compliment eachother very well and have a similar mindset behind them. Using space with pace.
Whoever decided to hire these two deserves massive praise!
great video! keep doing that!
Isn’t this similar to the Spanish style?
It looks like a better version of the Dribble Drive 🤭
You must be delusional to think that the NBA is an actual honest league with real games 😁
I hope that style stops 3 point contesr each game 😴
Amazing job Bravo!!!❤
Iisalo has taken the tagging strategy from the Finnish national team who does it also
great video
memphis identity being hustle and speed make the coach idea match made in heaven
I had the chance to attend an Isalo coach clinic a few years ago. He also presented his principles there.
1) Always get into the zone and kick outwards from there.
2) After the kickout, the player has the decision between throwing and passing, never attack again on the first pass, because then the zone is still full.
3) Attack again on the second pass.
It is important to him that the decisions are made quickly. The quick decision is more important than the right decision.
With TJ Shorts you can get into the zone at any time, even in 1vs1. Otherwise he helps out with picks.
Statistics show that the points per possession are significantly higher when the ball has been in the zone at least once. And that's the biggest difference for me. And, above all, all the principles I mentioned.
The statistics also show (no wonder) that fastbreaks are even more efficient than simply getting into the zone. Accordingly, he has found a system that makes maximum use of these metrics.
And on OffenseRebounds he is "tagging" the opponent. So every player is looking for an opponent for Defense or to attack the rebound and still be able to defend.
In the end, they are having normally more shots than the opponent. And more quality shots. You will win most of the games because of that.
Great video ! He created a modern way to play basket, and this way is as Team and not an individual way. You should also add the pace of subsitutions because he does a lot of substitution of 2 or 3 players each times which is unhabitual and part of the process to exhaust the other team
Great analysis! Good work 👏
Funny, Thinking Basketball has also just released an analysis of the Grizzlies offense, but for some reason they are attributing the succes to assistant coach Laroche, failing to even mention Tuomas.
Tbh, Memphis was full of injuries last year and was playing with the G League Team most of the time. Otherwise, they were elite team. Iisalo is great though
Can someone explain a little bit better the 3pt off rebound strategy? It wasn't super clear to me, but seemed interesting!
Memphis are first in points and blocks, second in assists, and top 5 in rebounds and field goal percentage. And right now we still have Zach Edey, GG Jackson and Vince Williams recovering from injuries! And Cam Spencer having 50 points games in the G-League! The team is so loaded that we let Cam play in NBA games only against teams such as the Wizzards!
You forget to mention 1 very important thing;
When you can score your points fast and seemingly easy while your opponents have to use their full shot clock, you have the upper hand mentally.
Thats how for example Partizan lost 2 seasons ago in the play off against Real. Even when +/-20 points up, you never had the feeling that Real was lost. When they scored it looked easy while Partizan had to make crazy plays to score.
The majority of the credit should go to the D3 coach the grizzlies hired they stole his offense not Isalos
Thank you! Very interesting analysis!
Great job by Tuomas Iisalo! I can't imagine that he was once coach of Crailsheim in Germany's 2nd league.
Future nba head coach Tuomas Iisalo 🇫🇮🙌🏻
