Mailbag question: more and more people (Nick Wright, Bill Simmons etc.) are advocating for a change of rules to make the NBA a better TV product. What's your take on that? Do you think the analytical approach leading to always more threes endangers the game we love?

My question actually involves KD
He’s my favourite player of all time so my opinion on him might be slightly bias but like yourself i try to stay as objective as possible.
I’ve heard you call him a ‘slightly above average defender’ before.
I’ve also heard you say players like steph are ‘slightly above average’
I just want to know how you defend that.
Kevin durant can do everything on defense which schematically is a coaches dream.
You wanna run small ball, KD is capable of playing centre as long as the opposing centre doesn’t have a deep post bag.
You wanna play drop he’s more than capable of playing on the perimeter.
he’s also one of the best help defenders in the league. you’ve said this several times yourself he’s capable of being in two places at once protecting the rim and recovering to the corner.
He’s imo a pretty damn good 1 on 1 defender so if you want to switch he’s more than capable.
I just don’t see how steph and him are comparable on the defensive end.
Yes steph has improved from his earlier years as a defender.
However, with his physical limitations he’s simply not capable of impacting the defensive end the way KD can.

You’re wrong about Payton getting it to Steph. Even in grade school kids know to call time out and not try and make that pass.
And warriors were winning and everyone offense sucking. He shoulda run that clock but wanted that nite note glory and missed.
Either way officiating was so inconsistent. I can’t watch anymore games.
Swapping Steph and LeBron would make lakers contenders.
My gut says no on Butler.

I will say steph in Magic. His shooting will contribute so much to the team as they don’t have a reliable 3pt threat from the perimeter right now. His shooting will help so much for Franz and Paulo. Also Franz and Paulo will have an easier time driving in and kick out

Evidently you haven’t watched them this year where curry is a part-time player and doesn’t do anything too strenuous like playing defense or bringing the ball up. Kind of curious how you think he would get his shots since he’s always done it by running around in circles and letting other people handle the point guard duties.
Him instead of Tatum is an automatic Boston doesn’t make the finals. Him instead of Mitchell is the same. And in New York you have the same problem as OKC where Brunson has to facilitate all the offense in the system and while he is physically capable of it, then he’s not gonna score any points. There’s no team in the NBA where putting Steph Curry as their point guard makes them a championship contender except Minnesota.
I absolutely agree that Jokic doesn't need to do everything. If he were to take a step back and allow Murray to do his thing without overthinking, then that can get him going. But everyone will call me crazy because it's probably too late to change
Mailbag Question: Hi Jason, thank you for the great content. I am a Warriors fan, but why do so many Warriors fans think that signing Dwight Howard as a free agent solves all problems for them. With all due respect for Dwight's success and career, but I don't think he is the piece we need. Is there a benefit to signing 39 year old Dwight Howard that's been out of the league for a few years?
Butler is cooked. He talks the talk but can't walk it. Always underachieved. Then overachieved. And ALWAYS fell short. Cocky attitude. Not a good fit unless he's a 3rd option. And that's not a guarantee either. His age is also no good for the money he wants.
In no universe is an injury prone 34 year old Paul George better for Denver than Mpj
You described the role player you think teams should be targeting but I’m curious if you’d say who you think is currently the best role player in the NBA. I think most people would say Derrick White is the gold standard, would you agree or disagree? If you disagree who do you think is the best individual role player in the NBA?
Hey Jason great show. Whilst I don’t think the Schroeder trade really moves the needle I think the warriors are now one big away from championship upside. Just wondering your thoughts on vucevic to the warriors as a big that can really score and can have a more manageable defensive role alongside draymond. Do you think this team could contend for a championship?

Hey Jason! I keep hearing all these people saying the NBA is dying. Because of viewership and the new age of basketball. I really wanted to hear you talk about this topic. I do agree that basketball looks different now but I truly believe that it’s just a change in media styles. Before NBAs media coverage was heavily dominated by trade rumors and just clickbaity headlines along with the legacy of LeBron no doubt. And the new coverage of the game seems to be more about studying the game and play styles of teams kind of like creators like yourself. So in short these nba media workers are confusing the dying of their content as the nba is dying. Lmk what you think! Huge fan of the show pls make content like this for as long as you can !
