Comeback falls short for Jokic and the Nuggets | DNVR Nuggets Postgame

Comeback falls short for Jokic and the Nuggets | DNVR Nuggets Postgame

The Denver Nuggets did it again. They found a way to lose to a bottom feeder in the NBA. This time it was the Portland Trail Blazers and an Anfernee Simons buzzer beating layup. Nikola Jokic had 34 points but looked to be in a malaise. Jamal Murray had another 4th quarter push but it came up short. The DNVR Nuggets postgame show tries to figure out what happened and what it all means.

  1. Let's get real. Y wasn't Christian Braun guarding Simmons on the final play? Oh wait, was he on the floor? 😂😂. Lets keep it real. Thats on malone. He wasnt thinking defense. Remember Westbrook is 35-36..

  2. I feel like no matter how you dissect it, it all comes back to Murray, aside from everything else discussed from the beginning of the season (not being in shape, mental state, injuries, diffense, etc), even when you say something like Mike gets the ball less when murray's on the court, that's a Murray problem. Also the bad chemistry I feel is coming from him. Since we are stuck with him, I don't feel optimistic

  3. Given yesterday's games, the best trade for Denver is to try to trade MPJ, Strawther, Watson and a few more bench players (Nnaji, Šarić, Pickett?) for Bogdanović, Hunter and Nance Jr.

Denver gains three players who are ready to compete right now, with three-point shooting, defense and basketball intelligence. In addition, they play together and already know each other.

MPJ is one-dimensional on offense and unable to generate in ISO. In addition, defensively he is very limited. On another team, with another context, he would grow more as a player, but not on the Nuggets.

Strawther has unlimited scoring range, although he has too little NBA experience and his decision-making is very poor. The problem is that Denver must compete NOW and, above all, that defensively he is transparent.

Watson is a player for the future. He just needs to improve his open three-point shooting and his IQ on offense and defense (he's still very young). But as with Julian, Denver needs to compete now. They can't waste any more time developing players.

  4. It got to the point that now even Jokic is not that much intrested in a wining a game! I think that he is close to give up on this team if they not make a trade fast!

  5. It's time to bench Murray and start Russell Westbrook to play next to Jok, Murray is too selfish and almost never passes the ball to Jok while Westbrook developed a great chemistry with Jok and this chemistry between them translates to whole team chemistry, we were much better when Murray was injured and Westbrook took his place, why is Jamal taking the most shots in team these last three games ? It is so obvious to an objective observer that he is only looking for his shots, he is not playing team ball and that is the main reason why the Nuggets look so lost, just bench the guy, why do you think Jok insisted in bringing in Westbrook to the team?

  6. I feel like Dev is the most brutally honest one while others try to keep it positive and optimistic. I wonder if its because of their inner fan or if they are also thinking about their own ratings (if the team falls , more casual fans who joined since championship might lose interest). I dont blame them either way, but I love Dev keeping it painfully real

  7. Calvin let the team down with his loser strategy of team construction and broke their spirit and trust in the organization! Cos of that there is no effort! Guys are not intrested in babysitting young players into NBA form! They needed hard veterans like Russ but he gave them children to play with! Calvin thik he played smart like a Sun Tzu! WRONG!!! You are a guy who will be a main vilain in a book How To Ruin a Wining Franchise! aka an IDIOT and that is how we will remember you! I needed to write cos its so hard to watch!

  8. Right now I feel like we're back to the point where they have a mental problem that is bigger than the talent issue, if you get to the point where Jukic lost all interest and hope, then you know, you're definitely not in a good place.

  9. The Nuggets' inconsistency, poor defense, and struggles against weaker teams raise serious concerns about their championship potential, despite flashes of brilliance from key players.

  10. It's so dishonest and misleading from you DNVR guys to put a blame to MPJ while he has clearly been a Nuggets second best player this season overall, You will find all the meaningless excuses and reasons just to not address the main problem a wanna be all star, pLaYoff mOnSter himself Jamal Murray, a guy who is playing terrible for almost a year now, he was mediocre last regular season and all of you were saying that he will arrive in the playoffs and save us, he not only didn't improve from regular season, HE was the main reason we were knocked out in the second round, awful shooting splits, playing hero ball, selfishness and lack of effort on defense cost us a good playoff run last year.. Ok you said we need to relax, he is going to bring it next season, will perform decent in Olympics, yet he was the worse player on team Canada on Olympics, but what about a start of this regular season, sure he has figured things out by now? NO, his awful form continued to start of this season causing the Nuggets not to build team chemistry early when all but one part of the machine were working well, then we have a 5 games winning streak(and ofc it came when Jamal didn't play) and we all know he will be inconsistent player for the rest of the season while trying to present himself like the team leader.. Now you look for a scapegoat and you found it in MPJ while "Jamal is bringing his form up" (in reality he had 3 average games while taking too many shots and not allowing team offense to rely on Jokic ball but his hero ball).. If this team really wants to get back on track they should look to bench Jamal and start Russell who has a much better chemistry with Jokic and actually plays defense and is not selfish like the bLuE aRrOw, and you ask yourselves why is Jokic protesting, it's clear

  11. So to address most sentiments: 1) We can't make any relevant trade, we have terrible contracts all over, no pics and the players with value actually fit so you don't want to trade them. 2) Russ is still shooting 40% on the season, he's still the same loosing player he always was, he gives energy alright, in PO everybody gives energy, 3) GM is super safe, this org isn't firing GM and changing a coach won't change anything cause you are stuck with Murray for the next 5 years….= only solution TRADE JOKIC

  12. Why are they lying about Jamal vs Kings game already…he literarily played 0 defense in the clutch, ZERO, totally gassed, Kings didn't hit their shots, POR did…that's what happens when you play no defense, you loose more often then not…stop lying about Murray

  13. what are they talking about, literarily any team can realistically win one game any one game against any opponents, it's called NBA…wtf? 😀 what that statement says is that they can loose to anyone

  14. Nuggets suffer from terrible management and coaching. For years now They can not find back up center to give Jok some support. Hartenstein was there yet they didn't see value in him and let him go. All the while they have Vlatko Zeke, and DJ just sitting there. I
would not be surprised if they find another injured player and make a project of how to rehab him in to 50% of his talents.
The management is so slow to make changes and Malone simply never knows how to react properly on what is happening on the court, he stick to his pregame analyses and if players don't do what is asked he never knows how to properly adjust rotations. Malone was super lucky he recognized Jokic talents.
Letting go of BB and KCP was a terrible mistake. This team relies to much on Jokic so much so that it really looks like Malone is stat padding Jokic .
Why because they never have any other option. This is purely coaching issue and management issue , you cant rely on one player for years , no one is that stupid.
Jokic as well seems to be more indignant of what is happening around him and you can see it on his atrocious defense efforts .
Body language of whole team is giving bad vibes . AG looks to be disappointed as hell as well, not sure what but he looks resigned as Jokic does. MPJ seems lost of what is actually asked of him to cut to shoot to rebound ?
He will never be a player to create his own shot but they should not trade him for Zach Lavine as he is not much better defender than MPJ , nuggets need some like Fox, Kirie as pg to change rhythm.

During the last few seasons Nuggets missed so many excellent small trades they could have done and are now stuck with years of bad coaching bad management decisions. MPJ on Celtics will kill any team as would probably Julian , so i don't think its a player issue , Malone is.

  15. Donnie with the coldest take of all time :D, everybody said it…GM likely knew it too, but owners likely forced his hand

  16. If we trade MPJ for Lavine it is going to be even worse. Problem is defence, and also Porter is better than Lavine in defence

  17. It's time to shake up, more like stirring up.
Jokic to Dallas Mavericks, Denver can ask for whatever except Luka and black guy, forgot his name. Jokic need out of Nuggets. I hateed that fact, but it looks like only way forward for Jok if he wants to win another chip.

  18. Jokic was bad defensively, but Gordon scored 2 points in 31 minutes. MPJ continues with its complete lull in the last quarter in 90% of games. Julian, PW are a disaster as expected of them, PW even took a step back in their progression. Except for that quarter against the Kings, Gordon is sluggish and doesn't move well at all. Jokic gave him three possessions in the third quarter within a yard of the basket, and each time he made the famous Ben Simmons-like pass instead of making the basket. I listened to coaches in Serbia who have been coaching for 30 years, and they all agree that the players are fed up with each other, and that's why we watch Denver without any effort. Denver must trade at least two players when this season is over, because any attempt to fix the starting 5 would be even worse. The bench needs to be strengthened because you can't go to the playoffs with Julian, PW, Jordan, Tyson, Saric, Zeke because every team will blow us away with a 15+ difference. Phoenix also lost at home to Indiana, which is desperate this season. Minnesota was blown out at home by New York and lost twice to Portland in 10 days. The only teams that play steadily and without any oscillations are Boston, Cleveland, Oklahoma, Dallas and that's it.

  19. Denver has a problem inside, the players are not connected outside the field, it's even the opposite. If you trade MPJ, you must trade him for a tall player who can and should have 7-10 Reb, which is Gordon's duty. Jokic can block two opposing players with his back, but in vain when the ball is picked up by the opposing wings. As MPJ is totally lethargic in the fourth quarter in 80% of the games played so far, so Gordon, except for a few games, does not show signs of a reliable player. This line-up simply got fed up playing together and that is nothing strange, it has happened before and will happen in the future to all teams. Two players must be changed from this lineup, I mean MPJ, Jokic, Jamal, Gordon. A clear example of how many times you saw Jokic's passes to Gordon that ended in a dunk, the second is how many times you saw a functional two-man game Jokic-Jamal, answer: last 3 minutes against the Kings. This is the second game where we see Jokic deliberately taking the ball and scoring three three-pointers in five attacks, that's what MPJ did until this summer. I wrote that all teams attack the space between Jokic and MPJ, Jokic is afraid to go out too much on the player because he leaves an empty space behind him that no one closes, for example in the second game with the Clippers where the Clippers' wings simply walk along the back line under the hoop. This season is as it is, MPJ can be traded, but I don't see a replacement in Lavine and the other players who are connected for that trade. At the end of the season, two players must be removed, certainly between MPJ, Gordon, Jamal and Joker (bench: Zeke, Cancar, Jordan, Julian, Saric, Pickett). On the other hand, Dallas did trade for two or three players last season who changed the team completely in the middle of the season and played in the finals. One thing is certain, Malone is a very good coach, which I can't say about the assistants.

  20. Should run a Braun, mpj, AG, peyton, and jokic line up. Feel like that would honestly be such a lethal combo

  21. The formula to beat the Nuggets is basically guards going at Murray and whoever is in front of them and the opposing team going for every rebound because the Nuggets just aren’t good rebounding this year. This game was the worst one I’ve seen so far with rebounding, it’s the ball-watching when the shot goes up and down and then just not scrambling for it. Where is the energy?

  22. There is an elephant in the room and I know that jurnalist do not want to acknowledge that! This team is broken thx to Calvin Booth young players BS! Our players do not believe in this team anymore and cos of that there is no effort! I never seen team this letargic since Jokic started! I think that problems are big in the organization and Calvin vision utterly failed! Not only that it failed but it destroyed team chemistry and thrust to the point that team is unrecognizable for old fans! Jurnalist try to sweep this under the rug but it is impossible to hide it any more! As a die hard fan this is so hard to watch while at the same time no one on Press Conference`s ask a question who`s gonna take a responsibility for this desaster!

  23. Denver is fucked up if Malone plays Russ 30 mins. He is not bad but he takes ball from Jokic. Denver won the ring with classic Jokic' s ball. Russ plays to much fast and Jokic cant control the game in that case.

And Malone is so bad this season. He plays Russ-Murray-Strawhter-Watsoon WTF is that line up???

It was 103-106 and he waits for Jokic until 5.60??? For those 2 mins they again made +11 🙄

Russ must not play more than 15-16 mins. He plays so fast and tiring the whole team with his super fast pace 🙄 Denver plays slow half court methodical offense. Russ plays more fast and chaotic. Jokic cant control the pace.

  24. not a serious team. no effort on defense or rebounding from anyone, not just jokic. I was concerned about the Jimmy Butler idea because I thought they needed shooting, now I would probably do it because he might actually help them with energy on defense and they are talented enough offensively.

  25. Remember when booth insisted that he drafted these young players because they would provide “juice”?? I don’t see much juice out there from anyone other than Russ who Jokic forced the team to get. Why is Booth still employed?!?

  26. The coaching decisions lost this game. Keeping the bench out too late too long. And putting the wrong people on the court to defend against the last shot. 43:57

  27. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but is it Malone? I’m not a fire the coach guy, and I love Malone so much, but I feel like the talent is there.

  28. Murray isn't playing team ball. He's getting better, but he's also the problem. And stop it with Hunter, yes he had effort, but I can give effort too and I shouldn't be on the floor either. AG let us down and the team is killing Jok's spirit.

  29. What is up with the starters? Also Jokic is playing like he doesn’t care, on auto pilot. None of team except Russell have no energy and there is no excuse cuz they have had many days off.
