No reason to invade a refs personal space. It was an aggressive response and Joel should have backed off immediately. But he lacks self control, so Maxey is once again left alone.

What was shown in the video is actually about 50% of Embiid's entire game. He's bigger than everyone else so he takes the ball, puts his head and shoulder down and barrels into opposing centers and expects to be bailed out with a block call. Been watching Embiid play this way for years. This is what is wrong with the NBA. 90% of the contact is always caused by the offensive player but usually the defensive player is called for the foul. Now this one time the ref calls the play fairly for the defender and Embiid can't handle it and loses his shit. If this was some other lesser name center rather than Wemby then Embiid would have probably gotten the call to go his way. Please please please, NBA change the rules next year and let defenders actually play defense. Oh, and get rid of the corner three. Shit, if the NBA squeezed the 3-point line and always called these types of offensive chargers then Embiid might as well retire because that's half his game right there.

I agree that NBA refs are bad regardless of their gender these days but I do feel like sometimes that the female refs either have a chip on their shoulder or they're just under qualified because the NBA hired them solely to make a diversity quota. I'm all for having female refs that do their jobs well. It just feels like the NBA cares more about virtue signaling than the integrity of their product.
This ref just seemed determined to eject players in this game. I only blame Joel for losing his composure at a ref who….although she's bad at her job….just ejected Drummond over nothing and actually had to un-eject him because of how egregiously out of line it was. Joel has to know what he's getting into by yelling at a ref like that, even if he has a valid point to make. Plus, yelling at a 5 foot tall woman as a 7 foot tall guy will always look bad from an optics standpoint. It kind of reminded me of Travis Kelce almost knocking over Andy Reid in the Super Bowl last year.
