    It changes nothing!

    It forces Kidd to do what he cannot do when Luka is available:

    Share the ball
    Run motion offense
    Play shut-down defense

    Start Grimes and you gave an effective scorer and superlative defender who doesn't need 35 shots a game.

    They should trade Luka to the New Orleans Pelicans for 6'11 center Yves Nissi & 6'9" forward Herb Jones…and possibly a #1 draft pick.

    T-H-I-S would enable more variation in the Mavs lineups using Gafford at PF + Lively at C with P.J. at SF to go with a big lineup.

    Luka cannot play fast and we can't use offensive/defensive sets with EVERYTHING running through a guy patting on the ball for 19 seconds before getting off the damn ball. He's got to learn what all great offensive talents must learn to win a championship against a real T-E-A-M.

    And…play tough defense and only take over when behind or at the end of games. Jordan, Bird, Isaiah, Shaq, Rick Barry et al didn't win blip until they not only trusted teammates but got them involved first.

    Not after you've scored the 1st 20 points or so in the 1st damn quarter. This may be good for sales, ratings and European inputs but is detrimental to the continuity of a championship basketball T-E-A-M!!

    Luka is a great offensive weapon but causes what I call the "Wilt Chamberlain effect" where everything revolves around and through O-N-E player who can only play one way while others are standing around…watching.

    I know they won't trade him but if they start Quentin Grimes in his place, he'll average 20 ppg & play incredible defense. Spencer Dinwiddie will lead the 2nd unit and Kyrie will be free to just score at will when needed.

    The tempo will be fast
    defense will be quick, long
    there's less reliance on the trey

    Plus every member of the T-E-A-M will be involved making it impossible to game plan for. There will be instances of 7 and 8 men in double figures, everyone engaged, everyone needed and no hero ball.

    Doing T-H-I-S,

    They will go on runs of 7-3, 8-2, 9-1 and 10-0. So…if Doncic is out for at least the next 40 games I predict their record will be 52-18 after 70 games with the #1 defense and #5 offense!!!

    With Luka they're not a top 5 defense, are stagnant with a Wilt Chamberlain type player doing it all while others stand around. Without him they can maximize their collective talent, beat Boston and have no weakness cuz Kyrie will be unleashed at the appropriate times rather than being reduced to a non participatory observer [until Luka decides what to do].

    If you actually watched the sun's game you would know that it wasn't just dallas defense. It was a combination of the sun's playing more minutes with the bench unit that focuses on defense and guys just bricking.

    Kd didn't have 0 assists because they made him the scorer.
    He has 0 assists because every pass to open shooters he made were just bricks.
    He passed it to oneal for like 4 straight open 3's and he didn't make a single one of them. He passed it to ryan and Jones and they also didn't make anything.
    He passed it to beal and he bricked.
    They ran pick and roll and nurkic was just falling down anytime he got the ball in a post up situation.

    Plumee didn't even look at the basket even though he was open basically all night from 13 feet.

    At one point kd passed it to a player with a drive/dunk and they still didn't even try and passed up he ball.

    It's honestly ridiculous how bad this team is at executing and finishing.
    Seeing the 0 assist makes you believe kd just didn't get his players involved or dallas was making kd a scorer but it wasn't that. Dallas was actually doubling kd half the night and kd was making the right reads and giving the suns advantages and often even just open shots. Without those advantages the susn might have only scored like 15 points.
    If they actually made the open shots KD created the sun's would have blown out the Mavs. Just 30% of them and they would have won

    The suns players just couldn't score. They had like a 6 minute stretch with 0 points without KD and in about a 8 minute stretch kd has basically the only points.
    Maybe 1 other guys had a bucket

    This team is just sad

    The Mavs have already played without Luka for a good amount of games so they’re already used to it but against the tougher teams that’ll show them how to try harder some more.
