You convinced me that It's our guy Nic Richards! I wouldn't really gamble on anyone else.
That Cam move I think gives us a bite!!!
No to trading Precious the "multi-dimensional player". And no to Whitmore, he sounds like a headcase. Knicks had a headcase in Randle. Why bring in another headcase? And yes to replacing Thibs for a coach who knows how to utilize a roster beyond 8 players.
Only move Precious for obviously a more talented player. Simms and Payne are the most tradable pieces that can improve our bench production
Fine tuning is all we need
Any chance Trey Murphy could be had from the Pelicans….
Here we go with the trade rumors lol everyday 😂
Start Precious and have Hart be the sixth man plus kidnap DDV back from the wolves!😅
I want to see Dadiet in the rotation and Hukporti they bring energy and Dadiet is good at defense and is a scorer
Sounds like a whole bunch of red flags but if it's for the right price I'll probably do it
But I definitely do want Nick Richardson
Watching the video, I realized pretty quickly that you don't understand where the Knicks currently stand with future salary and the second apron. You talked about the Knicks signing a free agent using the Mid-Level Exception next summer. As things stand, this might not be possible, and I'll explain why. From what I've been able to find on the internet, the NBA second apron level for next year (2025-26) is projected to rise to approximately $207,800,000. This year's second apron is $188,931,000 so this would be a big jump. Good news for high spending teams like the Knicks, right? Well, let's take a closer look.
With next year's second apron at 207.8 million how does that affect the Knicks. At this current time, for the 2025-26 season, the Knicks have a total salary of $196,310,224 going to a total of 10 players (Towns, Anunoby, Brunson, Bridges, Hart, Robinson, McBride, Kolek, Dadiet, and Hukporti). This 196.3 million puts the Knicks slightly below a projected first apron line of $198,100,000 for next year. Once again, the Knicks have only 10 players signed so 5 spots are still open that will have to be filled. How will they attempt to fill these 5 roster spots? Hard to say but for the sake of this conversation we'll make some assumptions.
First assumption will be for Precious Achiuwa and we'll make a conservative assumption. We'll say that the Knicks don't trade Precious this season and they actually resign him as a free agent next off season for exactly what he is making this year which is $6,000,000. Achiuwa is at least a rotation player for the Knicks this year so maybe they keep him. Add his 6 million to the rest and you now have a total payroll of $202,310,224 for 11 players. That is getting uncomfortably close to next years projected second apron and you still have 4 open roster spots. According to Hoopsrumors.com, next year's Taxpayers Mid-level exception is projected to be $5,426,400. After signing Precious the Knicks would be only $5,489,776 below the second apron. Unfortunately, with the new CBA, teams become HARD CAPPED at the second apron if they use a mid-level exception to sign a free agent. Obviously, with 4 roster spots to fill the Knicks wouldn't be able to use the taxpayers mid-level exception to sign a free agent next off season because they'd once again be hard capped at the second apron and wouldn't be able to fit all the required player contracts in under that hard cap (same spot they are in this year).
So how can the Knicks improve their team? They could make some sort of trade of course but there is no way we can realistically speculate on the details of that here, so we'll say that they don't make any trades. The Knicks can sign their own draft picks. However, the Knicks don't currently possess a first-round pick for 2025 (their own goes to Brooklyn from the Bridges trade and the Washington pick protected 1 thru 10 won't convey). The Knicks currently will pick somewhere in the 2025 second round (using some other team's pick acquired via a past trade) and they may be forced to once again sign a rookie second round pick to a minimal NBA salary contract to fill the required roster spots as they did this year with Kolek and Hukporti (how is that working out for the Knicks Championship hopes?). Remember, that the Knicks forfeited their own 2025 second round pick due to tampering. They can resign their own free agents like Cam Payne and Landry Shamet to basically vet min deals perhaps a little higher because their nice guys or they could sign new free agents to vet min deals only. That's about it for available methods to improve the roster.
Ok, so after Precious we got 4 spots to fill. Assume the Knicks will be happy with Shamet and bring him back on a vet min. Next season, Shamet's cap hit on a vet min deal would be approximately $2,270,735. He'll actually be paid more than this by about million or so, but that extra money won't be applied to the Knicks cap or aprons. So, with Shamet the Knicks are at 12 guys. We'll assume they don't bring back Payne because they already have Brunson, McBride, and Kolek that can run the point. Instead, we'll say they resign 2 more new free agents both of whom will cost the same as Shamet's $2,270,735 against the cap and aprons. The 15th spot we'll assume will be left open until some point in early 2026. So where does that put the Knicks total payroll to start next season in fall of 2025? Answer: $209,122,429 which is over the projected second apron with only 14 players signed.
Basically, what this means is that the team the Knicks have today is roughly the same team they will send out on the court next year (barring tweaks via trade). Maybe the new free agents they sign to vet mins will be guys who could have gotten more money but got squeezed out of the market like Gary Trent Jr. and Taurean Prince did last summer when they signed with the Bucks for vet min deals. The Knicks could swindle a couple good role players this way you never know. If you are a Knicks fan and you are disappointed in the Knicks team as currently constituted, then pucker up and give Leon Rose a wet sloppy kiss and say thank you sir may I have another because going forward this is likely what you are going to be stuck with. Also worth noting, the salary figures above do not include the eventual extension the Knicks will be forced to give Mikal Bridges that will kick in starting in 2026-27. Mikal Bridges is basically the Knicks 3rd best all-around player and after trading 5 first round picks for him they can't afford to lose him. Expect to pay Bridges at least what is being paid to Anunoby which will be somewhere in the neighborhood of 38 to 40 million per year (currently he's being paid about 25 million per year). Regardless, the Knicks are now a perpetual second apron team. There is no escaping that fact. One last parting shot. Where would you be if Brunson hadn't resigned at under market value? Even with Jalen taking less, it still doesn't look like it's going to work out for old Leon Rose. Back to the drawing board!
you have a shocking new update every other day that doesnt happen. lol. andi could've sworn you already reported on this….lol. whats going on?
They will make significant move
JB,Duece, Achuwa, Payne, all these players are to small
I would trade brunson only one that brings value back and he not it anyway as the lead guy the mistake was building around a midget they gave up 5 picks for a non superstar cause he is brunson's friend dumb midgets don't win chils
F it
I’d risk it for whitmore
We need to trade the coach before the deadline
Bro enough speculation just trade already
