OKC CAN’T Pay Everyone 💸
Gilbert Arenas GOES OFF over the salary of the Oklahoma City Thunder players. Since they are all young and playing well this team won’t last. Unfortunately that will be the OKC Thunder’s chances at winning an NBA championship. Because if they have to pay everyone they won’t be able to. Chet Holmgren, SGA (Shai Gilgeous-Alexander), and Jalen Williams all have claims to being super max NBA players. They will eventually have to split up similar to when Russell Westbrook, James Harden, and Kevin Durant played in OKC. All good things have to come to an end in OKC says Gilbert Arenas of the Gil’s Arena podcast in this great inside-the-NBA take from the crew.

These teams can more than afford to pay these players.
I missed it, did someone catch Covid or something?
then its a good thing we have the most draft picks
Damn, this is beyond true. And it’s also a fact about business. This ain’t the 70s 80s or even the 90s where contracts were marginal compared to today. If you get 3 contracts, 2max in an NBA career you’ve become a wealth creator, a generational savior… you can’t blame any athlete that has earned that right to get paid
They can’t afford all of them lol
Nah I'm from OKC and that won't happen again
OKC on path to a championship 🏆 without LUx TAx YAy
Let harden go over a few million……biggest fumble in NBA history…..
Unless they win
It’s always so funny to hear this. What’s the alternative Gil?? Draft shitty players so you can afford to pay them? Niggas always talk about salary like it’s our job to pay them. Mf if Warriors and Suns are ass but in the 2nd apron I guess OKC has to stay under it even tho they’re way better 😂
As long as they pay sga jdub and chet they will be good for a long time. I trust presti to keep finding good rookies for cheap contracts. Role players is easy to replace.
They could’ve afforded harden but they didn’t wanna go into luxury tax
Difference this time is okc still has crazy picks. They can afford to pick and choose when it comes time to pay guys as the years progress. I'm a Rockets fan, but damn we might be looking up at 2nd best in the West for a while. That's if we lucky too, the west as wild as ever. We're 7 games behind Okc, and 7 games behind the 🚀 is the 11th seed.
Oklahoma is making moves to make this team a Major Market team and trying to be the next Big City with the building plans they have for the next 30 years.
OKC should trade for Cameron Johnson 💯
OKC also bunch of draft picks as well… So, I don’t know what Gil is trying getting with this take.
History will repeat 😂. Okc has one of the best scouting and development staff, but one of the dumbest front office staff in History
They aren’t all nearly going to get paid as much as expected besides Chet probably so.
Crazy how we going to work for our lil money and these dudes really like 10 to 20 million a year isn’t enough money 😂 hell I’ll take 3.5 😂
Fact check: When does Chet and Jalen William need to get paid. Two or three years from now. They should have a title by then.
Blah blah blah is going to fall because of bla bla blha…eisssh!! STOP IT!
Okc need to sit down and evaluate who is the top 3 guys that they feel could keep them contenders, pay them first, then figure the rest out.
This is Sam Presti’s chance to rewrite history
Okc gonna have a huge problem soon where the balance between their picks and draft talent collides with their current talent and creates a huge shit storm. On top of this, factory in the paying issue, they gotta win pretty quick to have the best chance.
Having SGA for the rest of his career without a lot of these pieces who compliment him best is basically a waste. They gotta get ahead of it before it ends up a Westbrook scenario where you a have a star guard but the wrong team around him.
Arenas knows nothing. He just talks and says whatever. Okc will be fine.
De ja vu for OKC. Gil spot on
Gil is right. They are young and have not got a max contract yet or a $35-40M payday yet to take less money on a real second contract. It’s amazing how a rookie contract ain’t shit to a NBA player lol.
the same convo was being had with tatum and brown. Salary cap doesn't stop great teams
Careful GA Kmart went after Shai last week and Mr b got everybody on his bumper with the tatum slander. You might wanna visit Boston and Oklahoma City one day😂😂
Not before winning 2 chips this year and next
they have to choose championship legacy or individual bags. simple.
OKC could afford everyone but the real question is will they pay everyone. GSW paid KD, Curry, Klay, Draymond and Andre igudola while still building a bench. In different cases the had DeMarcus Cousins, shawn Livingston, andrew buget, Javale mcgee, keevon Looney, quin cook, jordan bell. Since they drafted most of there roster they arent restricted to how much they can pay. They would have to go over the luxury tax to be better than everyone else.
It’s wild to me that more nba players don’t take less. If you can’t live off 35 mill instead of 60. Then I don’t know what to tell ya
They also have like 10 first round picks so they'll lose their current young talent but can always add on
Awwww shiiii here we go again
