The Western Conference is Absolute CHAOS

The Western Conference is Absolute CHAOS

Throughout the first half of the NBA season the Western Conference is confusing and insane. The Oklahoma City Thunder are a dominant force even without Chet Holmgren playing much. The Houston Rockets are shocking the world as the two seed with eyes on big time stars around the trade deadline. The Memphis Grizzlies can’t stay healthy but keep winning anyways. The Denver Nuggets have Nikola Jokic and Russell Westbrook has come up huge for them but Jamal Murray and the supporting cast are hyper inconsistent. The Los Angeles Clippers just got Kawhi Leonard back and managed to stay afloat while the Los Angeles Lakers have been one of the most up and down teams in the league with LeBron James and Anthony Davis following suit. The Dallas Mavericks are extremely hurt, the Minnesota Timberwolves just aren’t very good, nor are the Golden State Warriors who have fallen off. The Kings fired Mike Brown and have been playing well while the Phoenix Suns are trying to desperately make trades to save the Devin Booker and Kevin Durant era, the Spurs are just trying to get Victor Wembanyama his first Playoff series, and everybody else is tanking. It’s been a highly unpredictable conference and this feels like it’s only the beginning. Let’s talk about it.

  1. The league is in a bad spot with fans because of bad refs, the CBA aprons, and arbitrary rules on games played. It's frustrating because they can fix all these issues – have auto replay review in the last 2 minutes, get rid of the aprons and the Stepien rule and allow 1 max star per team that doesn't count against the cap. And shorten the season to 70 games, which would mostly eliminate the need for load management. It's a flawed product that can be fixed

  2. A team that is good one night and bad the next is called mid its fan delusion that doesn't want to admit that your mid, because it means you need to rebuild and that usually means being bad until you get it right

  3. It's incredibly tiresome when self-appointed armchair GMs say that Steph is amazing and the front office should "get him some help." Like they don't know that he's good. Like they haven't always known. Like it's super easy to get top tier talent without giving anything away. It's just lazy analysis and we've heard it a million times. Name the trade, I'll tell you if I like it. Otherwise you're not saying anything. How about this: EVERY team needs an upgrade and should go make a trade.

  4. Every time the stars went down on the clips powell always was scoring around 20ppg on pretty good efficency. Definitely an underrated player

  5. I’m sorry I’m a thunder fan and sga is the man but joker is almost averaging a 30 point triple double and it feels like the nuggets would be a g league team without him

  6. It feels illegal for someone to be a basketball Youtuber and not know which Bulls team was the one that went 72-10.

  7. I believe you are underestimating the Nuggets, but that is understandable given how badly they have sucked. Recently however, things are falling into place. Namely, Aaron Gordon is back and playing great, the new guys – Payton Watson and Julian Strawthmore – are finding their place in this squad. At the beginning of the season, they looked bad because there were so many changes and they had no chemistry, which is everything for the Nuggets. Literally, within the last couple of weeks, they have turned a corner. They were awful against the Rockets w/o Joke and Gordon, but I think they can beat the Rockers and they've already beaten OKC and destroyed the Mavs (w/o Luka). I see the Nuggets emerging as the number 2 seed. I want to see how they'll do against the Knicks, which is soon.

  8. Excellent breakdown. Thanks Cone. I'm liking Houston But OKC and the Cavs are looking good for the finals. Look out if the Celts wake up in the East. I don't believe the Mavs can get back to the Finals.

  9. How did you have a really young talented and exciting Rockets team, who finished 41-41 last season and would only get better naturally from experience and growth finishing 10th and getting kicked out of the play ins considering they’re on the exact same path as your fav team OKC just a year behind??

  10. Idk that the Western Conference is "chaos." If you look at the standings of both conferences from the 1st to the 9th seed, there is only a 1 or 2-win or loss difference between the respective seeds.
    (Cavs/Thunder: both #1 – 1 loss difference, Celtics/Rockets: both #2 – 1 win difference, Knicks/Grizzlies: both #3 – 1 loss difference, etc.)
