RJ wont he traded this season. That would be marketing suicide. And his playmaking has picked up. Next year it will be focus on middie. On Good contract until 2027. Which i think is the year the Raps legit contenders again with the rate of positive development happening.
By then the tough decisions will be made and Gradey should be developed into what they want. If any of RJ, IQ, GD are lacking then we can move offa them, all with decent contract and RJ on expiring.
Hey Robinson can be good bu min player and our 5 rooks will have dev hopefully by then too. Im really high on jakobe but imagine finished project of Ulrich, JMo, Battle and Shead also.
I saw the report too – but I perceived it that as spitballing with very little to it. Pincus has zero ties to the Raps. Some of this stuff is literally just gossip that gets printed. Raps are not trading RJ. In Fact Raps are still dabbling on the Zion Williamson front to – re-join him with RJ to recreate the Duke Magic and it would let Scotty play more at the 3 so Raptors are able to play bully style at all 4 of the front spots. Everything I am getting is Hangup in your ear list – is Scottie; RJ; IQ; ; The I'll be polite in probably declining list unless you blow me away with something to improve the team – not just draft capital : Poetl; Dick Walter; Olynyk. The outbound Call list actively shopping is Brown; Boucher Mitchell – Everyone else is open season – but most of their deals are small and hard to match – they are toss-ins on bigger deals…
It's important to remember that Coverage of Raps in US media is really light generally – Raps front office is known to be secretive ESPN has Windhorst and Shams officially on the Raps on paper – but both of them are too busy on other assignments constantly – so they waste no time. As a result 90% of what you read is total guesswork. Marks; Stein; Perkins; Shellburne; Smith, Young; Legler; Wilbon; McMahon None of these folks can give anything but a surface answer on the Raptors – They give opinions after things are done.
RJ being in this report isn’t a bad thing quite the opposite. This is a business and before acquiring RJ, his contract was viewed as a poison pill. So the team “shopping” RJ just means other teams have value in him and the Raptors are listening to gauge his market value.
Problem I have with it is that the Raptors should be doing this with every player. Players being off limits makes zero sense when you don’t even know the offers.

I mean rj is the odd man out. Cant have Scottie iq and rj taking up 70% of the cap, they’ll never win that way. Rj is not worth the 40mil he is gonna ask for next season.
If GD can get his 3 together than he might win out over RJ. But right now, RJ brings more to the team. GD could be a great 6th man.

RJ is ok player, but he ain't the guy u can win championship with, Knicks realized that and dump him and got a guy that we really need, OG. It's killing Scottie that he has 2 guard best players from other teams all the time, it's 2 much for anyone.

I'd deal Dick, before Barrett but again not sure of the packages out there. Brown/Boucher/Mitchell/Olynyk/Poeltl must go.
If Masai moves RJ he needs to try another sport…like knitting ! RJ's success is making the OG trade a little easier to stomach. I know it's all about contracts this and timeline that but you need to hold onto strong players like RJ to build anything like a good team.
@benrogers its because you have not crunched the numbers. if they pay jakob poeltl his 16 million raise, and with scottie barnes making 39 million next season, and if they take back zero money or let boucher brown and davion walk, and if the salary cap goes up 10 million next year. the raptors are only 2 million below the first apron at 186 million, where the 1st apron is at 188 million. if they take back money for boucher brown and davion, they likely 2nd apron.
this means they have to trade RJ next season in 2026 anyways because expirings are worth two 2nds if they let rj go into 2027-2028. as well RJ with his improved stats likely is gonna ask for a max contract and raptors cant afford that because rogers wont pay luxury tax.

@benrogers also the problem with RJ Barett is his defence is trash. also who is rj gonna guard in the playoffs with his defence. he is undersized to go up against wings who are 6'8 who he is likely to be guarding, and he will be hunted for easy buckets like deangelo russel. thats the problem with RJ Barett, his defence is bad, and his likely max contract next contract means the raptors cant afford RJ Barett and gradey dick on his rookie max possibly because rogers wont pay luxury tax if the raptors have not been to conference finals.
If we are giving up RJ… We have to be getting a top 10 lottery pick in this year draft and next… that is the only way Massai will let go of him…
Everyone saying keep RJ are the same ones that didn’t want Demar to get traded. I’m about winning in the long run and keeping RJ isn’t going to get us there. He’s another Monta Ellis in Gstate does numbers but wasn’t doing much to change the dynamics of the organization. If we can trade RJ for young players like a Keegan Murray and someone to match his contract or even a dalton knect and someone else to get Match the contracts. I’d rather tank for cooper flag, or hope a superstar wants out and we trade RJ or possibly even Scottie for a star while being a top pick in the draft.
Rj better off on a team either up and coming team or a playoff contender.But we all know masai more times then not just stands pat.
Ben, how would you spread the money across a championship team? I feel 60% percent of the budget needs to go into the last few years of vets and unproven young talent. If you pay the young guys too much then there is no room for anything else but bench mobs.
If we can get a good 2025 first rounder for RJ then you pull the trigger. If not by the deadline then at the draft. If we can get a top 8 pick from a team like Philly then its a win-win
