8 HYPOTHETICAL TRADES the Cleveland Cavaliers could consider at the NBA Trade Deadline

The NBA’s trade deadline is just one week away from today (2/6) and the Cleveland Cavaliers have an interesting decision to make.

As it stands right now, the team is ever so slightly above the luxury tax and are in danger of starting the repeat offender clock a year early. If the team doesn’t make any moves, that will be their reality.

On the other hand, the Cavs are the #1 seed in the Eastern Conference and are legitimate NBA Finals contenders, so there’s an argument to make that Koby Altman should push all his chips in and go for it now.

But what will the Cavs do?

We won’t find out until next week, but Mikey McNuggets sat down with Luka from RealCavsFans.com, Mack Perry from the ItsCavalier Podcast & Tony Pesta from Fear The Sword to discuss some hypothetical trade scenarios for Cleveland at the deadline to determine if any of them are worth pursuing.

The NBA trade deadline is right around the corner, and one of the most interesting teams to watch in the process is the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Cavaliers are headed for the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference and don’t have many clear needs, but it never hurts to seek improvements.

Of course, the question is whether or not Cleveland can actually swing a major trade without disrupting team chemistry.

While we have heard various rumors about the Cavs’ plans, it is looking like it may be a rather quiet deadline for a Cavaliers squad that doesn’t have a whole lot of tradeable assets.

However, Josh Cornelissen of King James Gospel feels that Cleveland general manager Koby Altman may ultimately make a significant splash before Feb. 6, especially with rumors that the Cavs have inquired about Brooklyn Nets forward Cameron Johnson.

“Can they put together a deal that entices Brooklyn and is palatable for the Cavaliers?” Cornelissen asked. “Whatever the answer to that question, Altman is not playing it safe or taking it easy this season. Instead, he is exploring every possibility, including aggressive swings for the fence to make this team better. … For now, however, the one thing that we know the Cavaliers are doing is calling about significant upgrades. That’s the kind of bold action Cleveland fans should be cheering him for.”

All things considered, it’s one thing to make phone calls. It’s another thing to actually get a deal done.

When it comes to Johnson, for example, the Nets are surely looking for a rather sparkling trade package given that he is under contract through 2027. The Cavaliers simply may not have what it takes to acquire the breakout scorer.

But Altman does appear to be trying to make something happen.

  1. Rue is terrible in the playoffs from what i have seen the lakers can keep him and when i watched him vs a Boston or Milwaukee he have bad games vs the teams we need to beat he dont play well so absolutely not

  2. Okoro has always been a jump shot red flag ever since college… forcing a slasher to become a 3&D and you are undersize… I think it’s time to throw in the towel on Isaac and let lose on Levert contract. We need better 3 size and a backup big

  3. Per NBA rule, Harrison Barnes cannot be traded back to Sacramento at this trade deadline since he was just acquired by the Spurs during the 2024 off-season. That would have to be an after the season type of deal

  4. Cam Johnson averages just over 50 games a season. That means he’s injury prone as well. That’s a lot of games to miss.

  5. Wait….. McNuggets asked a question to the panel n they didn’t respond with a question or asked for stats???🤯🤯🤯 This was an easy watch.

  6. Trade a couple 2nd rd picks along with Levert and Porter Jr to Blazers for Williams 3rd and Banton.
Gets them under the tax and they keep their 2031 1st

  7. The cavs aren't in the 1st apron this yr we are over the cap but 4mill from the 1st apron so we wont be a repeat next yr

  8. Draft assets are overrated. The more talent you have, the more you have to potentially GET draft assets if necessary. Keep Wade if possible.

  9. THE TRADE WILL BE JARRETT ALLEN, CARIS LEVERT, ISAAC OKORO AND 2031 1ST ROUND PICK FOR KEVIN DURANT! GARLAND, MITCHELL, STRUS, DURANT, MOBLEY!

  10. Okoro, Thompson and LeVert for Jonas Valancuinas. Cavs need a talented backup for Allen, big enough to box out Embid, Turner, Jokic, Sabonis, or Davis in playoffs. He would allow Mobley and Wade to remain on perimeter, offense and defense.
