I do not care why it has happened. What I care most is its implications as regards the Rockets. Because on surface it does not make sense. The Mavs Management is complaining about his eating too much spaghetti instead of pork chops, injury proneness and so on as if those problems will vanish all of a sudden now that LeBron has the immature, high-saturated fat, no-defense guy under his wings.
Probably the Mavs Management do not care about the existing Mavs Fan Base. They want to move somewhere else and establish a new fan base. Could they be moving to Las Vegas with the pushing of the NBA management? Probably they also saw that the best they could do is to get to the finals only with a super-fit(?) Luca because the guy does not care about defending. So if you think about his injury-proneness , they probably thought they would not even make to the last 4. That is why.
Rockets cannot panic and make the wrong deals now… either you make a deal that's really good for you, or don't make a deal at all untill the offseason
This is not a win-now situation and Rockets even with some reinforcements are not win-now team.

2029 Mavs' swap value through the roof? hummm, Irving's contract ends in 2026 @ age 33, AD's contract ends 2027 @ age 33 with a 1 year player option at $62+m and
Klay Thompson in 2027 @ age 36. The Mavs will have a lot of free cap space 2 years before that 2029 swap can convey.
