Out of the guards that we were rumored to be in talks for (Lavine, Beal, Butler), I wanted Lavine. Lavine is younger, cheaper, more athletic, can shoot, he's a bigger guard, & less drama. Athleticism & a bigger guard are 2 things we really lacked the past 5-6 years or so. That's why we kept getting torched by guys like Butler, Jaylen Brown, & Tatum come Playoff time. As great as Jrue was defensively, he still too small for those guys, asking him to guard those type of players for a 7-game series is a tough demand. He can guard guys like CP3, Booker, Kyrie, etc, because they're smaller, less physical & more finesse. I think Lavine may still be on the table though, it makes no sense for Sac to pair him up with Derozan again when that didn't work in Chicago. That makes me feel like Sac is open to trading everyone & rebuilding.
If Sac is rebuilding, we should ask for Sabonis. Last night against the Grizzlies, we were outrebounded 61 to 36, & they had 22 offensive rebounds, that's crazy! Brook didn't get any rebounds until the 4th quarter. There was one after a freethrow where it slipped right out of Brook's hands & went out of bounds. Our team averages 44 rebounds per game (ranked 17th), & we give up 46 rebounds per game (7th worst team in this category). Sabonis would fix our rebounding issues. He doesn't get as much blocks as Brook, but he's way faster on his feet than Brook is. Brook's perimeter defense hurts us big time, has our team scrambling a lot to make up for his slowness, thus giving up a lot of open 3s, we give up the 4th most 3pts per game. Sabonis is also 2nd in 3pt shooting this year, so that helps us a lot as well. If we center a trade around Brook for Sabonis, & maybe add Portis & Connaughton plus some picks, it would keep the fans who still want to hold on to Middleton happy as well. Brook is a free agent this Summer, Bobby & Pat has a player option, if Sac is rebuilding, teams who are rebuilding like taking on expiring contracts. Of course we would need to make another move as well to get a backup big, or wait until the buy-out market.
