This is a perfect example of, “it’s not about what was said, it’s about what was NOT said.” He easily could have confirmed what Nico said about talking with him about what players he likes and what the team needs generally, etc., but instead he painted a picture of him having zero input into roster decisions.

Beyond the obvious basketball reasons this trade was a terrible idea, the front office underestimated how much people genuinely like Luka as a person. Kidd, Kyrie, Cuban, not to mention LeBron and JJ even before this all went down.
Thought J Kidd was the brains behind the AD-Luka trade, AD played for J Kidd as an assistant coach when the Lakers won the championship, thought it was his recommendation
The Britney Griner-Merchant of death trade is still the worst trade in history but this Luka trade is a close 2nd for the Mavs lol
His hat says everything about how he feels about this trade. Mark Cuban would have never made this trade in my opinion

I am employee of the mavs is the way to say, no i dont like the trade but i cant say it. Otherwise he would have said, i love the trade. Since he doesnt like the trade, he has to be ok with it. If he says i am not, he stirs up trouble and is in direct attack to his boss.
All this happen after Mark Cuban sold the team is crazy
So jokoy is now also a coach
And AD is injured again – he may require surgery from some doctors opinions
I'm starting to believe that the Mavs didn't choose AD over Luka, they chose Lively over Luka. Lively is going to demand a hefty contract if he can stay healthy for a season next year. He's got the skills and is a difference maker on both sides of the ball. He's a great leader, by example with the way he carries himself and vocally, on the court and from what I've seen on the sidelines. This man is a bonified modern prototypical center, an unknown ceiling with all the intangibles. Signing Luka and Lively to massive contracts was not gonna leave room for a competitive roster. Now AD can mentor D-Live and share some of his experience and help him grow. It's kinda scary to think about what these two will look like out there at the same time. AD is going to be great for Lively and Gafford also. Luka will be fine and do his thing in LA. We got quite a squad right here still, now and in the future.

Fans need to understand, to win championships you need consistent greatness – we’ve seen that from Tatum, Giannis, Joker, LeBron, Steph, Kawhi over the last 2 decades. Just being good in spurts is not good enough. That’s why Kyrie, AD and Klay are a bad fit for a championship-aspiring team. They are great as #2 options, as when they have an off night, the #1 player covers for them.
Luka was THE guy, night after night doing damage and putting up crazy numbers.
Now the Mavs have to go get another #1 guy.
Defense win championships, as long as you take care of the offensive end.

He got screwed just as much as Luka did, as well as the rest of the team and the fans. The MAVS suck as an organization under this new ownership. I went from loving them, to absolutely hating them. As an European Luka fan I will be following the Lakers from now on.

I believe Jason didn't know. But if he was Phil Jackson (that level-ish) oh he'd be in the process. He said I'm an employee. Some Coaches are big enough to be part of the team, front office, ect.
I'm a Laker fan and I hate to see AD go. He came out well, but he gets hurt when you blow in him too hard.
