Reaction to Luka Doncic’s BIG debut with Los Angeles Lakers after Mavericks trade | Hoops Tonight

Jason Timpf returns to react to NBA superstar Luka Doncic’s first game as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers. Timpf explains why LeBron James’ newest high-profile teammate immediately raises the Lake Show’s offensive ceiling, despite Jason growing concerned about L.A.’s defense with the departure of star forward Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks. Timpf breaks down all of the action in the Lakers’ dominant 132-113 victory which saw Luka Magic score 14 points in 24 minutes as he attempts to shake the rust off of a weeks-long injury. Then, Jason explains why Luka and LeBron’s pairing with lob threat Jaxson Hayes is proving to be an effective band-aid after Los Angeles failed to acquire Charlotte Hornets big man Mark Williams at the NBA trade deadline. Finally, Jason closes the show out by explaining why Luka Doncic’s impact on the Lakers could prove to be invaluable as one of the Association’s premiere franchises fights for another Larry O’Brien trophy.

  1. Bro we have a 3 headed monster lebron Reaves Luka they can all 3 initiate off the fly and on setts called hayes is gonna be more potent

  2. Lol Luka did look extremely out of shape. Get a spray tan and live with Bron for a couple weeks he'll look like Giannis

  3. Just wanted to say that those social media feeds have been "brand new" for about 2 years now 😅

  4. Hayes is why they've been so good not small ball. This team should be the favorite to win title. LeBron has so much help. Keep Hayes for doncic lobs

  5. I have to be honest: Pelinka had his highs and lows, but the scouting team for the Lakers has been REALLY top notch. They found Caruso, Austin, Max Christie, and now this Goodwin guy looks perfect for this team. His hot shooting won't last, but he gives his all on the court and the Lakers absolutely need every last bit of perimeter defense they can get.
The only real mistake has been drafting Hood Schifino. One bad pick over 5+ years, and 1 rotation guy out of undrafted free agent is beyond impressive.

  6. Luka being a couple thousand miles from Whataburger is really going to help. It is so hard to resist, I understand

  7. They didn’t play good defense? They hold Jazz like they were G league team. The reason why Jazz scored over 110 was Lakers just let them in 4th quarter.

  8. This is despite LEBRON being much older but not slowing down at all! This is damn near like having magic Johnson & LARRY bird on the same team: IN 1985! (imo]

  9. I love how not only you but also JJ includes Austin in these on ball creator convos. We are lucky to have such great talent in our team

  10. Lakers, I can no longer revel in your misery. Basketball deities favor you forever. Luka will win at least 2 rings. Salute. I'm jealous. Congrats. Whatever.

  11. I was so pumped to watch the Lakers last night, I've been a casual fan for the past few years other than the playoffs but this whole move has me wanting to watch every Lakers game

  12. Having the 2 best playmakers correct read players, who also are elite scorers in the league on the same team is deadly. In the half court game that the playoffs become, they are going to be so difficult to guard. Reeves is also very good, he has a very herky jerky approach similar to Ginobili in many ways. They have long wing defenders who can knock down 3's in Vando, Hachimura, and Finney Smith. They have quick guards like Vincent, Milton coming off the bench who can shoot and penetrate as well. Hayes and Len just need to dunk lobs, rebound, and protect the rim as best they can.

Lebron clearly is going to have more energy now since Luka can run the show for long periods of time, his defensive energy is already picking up a lot. He can focus now on being more of a finisher and wing defender for stretches, play make when needed. This team is going to outscore almost everyone, their only real danger in the west is Jokic. The other teams are either really young, not great matchups w the Lakers, or just don't have as much talent. I see this team winning the West and playing the Cavs in the Finals. That will be a very tough matchup for the Lakers with the 2 bigs (Allen and Mobley) and the super explosive back court of Garland and Mitchell, but the Lakers experience and talent will prevail and Lebron will win his 5th ring over his hometown team as well as Finals MVP. You heard it here first! Haha!
