Luka Dončić trade & “Fire Nico” controversy with Dallas Mavericks

Fire Nico” has been a go-to chant for Dallas Mavericks fans since the Luka Doncic trade went down. Whether the move actually works for the Mavericks or not, many fans have made their intentions clear: They want general manager Nico Harrison fired.

When the American Airlines Center jumbotron showed fans during a karaoke singalong on Monday night, one of the fans acted like he was singing — only to then mouth the words, “Fire Nico.” He and a friend also had large “Fire Nico” signs.

Arena security staff responded to their section and promptly escorted the two fans out of their seats.

We asked the Mavericks about the incident, and other reports of fans getting the boot, and this is what they said:

“In the first incident, the guest brought in a sign that broke the following rule included in the NBA Code of Conduct: Clothing, garments or signs displaying explicit language, profanity or derogatory characterization towards any person(s).”

The Mavericks also addressed another report of two fans getting kicked out, reportedly for getting into a shouting match with Mark Cuban, the team’s former majority owner who still has a stake in the club.
