Jazz was blown up by the Lakers two days ago. Today, they were the ones who got blown up by the same team. It's inevitable for Luka to have some rusty games with a new team, having not played since last Christmas. The main concern now is their defense. Alex Len is not even close to being good. Pelinka picked the wrong center. We want a big man, not a tall skinny, slow man who can't rebound.

I think the Lakers made this trade knowing they were sacrificing this season as a potential title run-you simply can't have crappy big men and compete in this league-small ball only really works if you have 2 of the top 5 3 pt shooters of all time on your team.
The thing is, I almost think this year is their best chance with this pairing. If the team is really prioritizing building around Luka, he needs a lot of the same types of players that succeed around LeBron. The problem with that is Luka doesn't have the freakish athleticism, plays little to no defense, and can't move without the ball in ways that lebron can. So it will likely be the. same "swap out at least half the roster every offseason" strategy the team has done since LeBron got there. Luka's also going to have to deal with coaches lasting only 2-3 years at a time.

The Lakers are a 2nd round exit at best. Their interior defense is ridiculously soft. Jaxson Hayes is their only real big man and he's at best an average player and a below average defender. The Nuggets, Thunder, Grizzlies, and Mavs if healthy will demolish the Lakers in the playoffs because the Lakers have no one to stop their big men. Even Zubac would eat vs the Lakers. Quick guards also bother the Lakers so SGA, Kyrie, Ja, and Jamal Murray would cook them just like Murray did last season in the playoffs.
The Rockets would give the Lakers all kinds of matchup problems in a 7 game series too. The only current western teams that the Lakers could beat in a 7 game series are the Warriors, Kings, and Suns. Defense wins championships. A team with trash defense trying to outscore their opponents doesn't work in the playoffs. This has been proven countless times over.

I say this as a Laker fan. Calm your expectations folks. We need to have strong defense and a solid bench to be legitimate contenders. I don't want us to falter in WCFs or something. You simply cannot expect Luka + 40-year old LeBron to carry us to a chip. Probably will have to face the OKC squad in the WC semis or something or the Nuggets again. And I don't see us winning a series against those teams tbh
