How The Lakers Shut Down Nikola Jokic

The Lakers may have just played the best individual defensive game on Nikola Jokic we’ve ever seen, but how did they do it?

  1. Literally just shows you that the nuggets are easy to beat as long as you focus on Jokic when Braun, Gordon and Westbrook are on the court together.

  2. Denver wasn’t ready for this. Remember how the Lakers handled Towns against the Knicks? Their lack of a true big man surprisingly turned into an advantage, allowing them to focus on team defense, clog the paint, and get the job done. JJ brilliantly transformed what seemed like a weakness into a secret weapon. One thing is certain—this strategy could become the blueprint for other teams looking to take down the mighty Nuggets.

  3. The Joker and his fans got exposed. He’s definitely not the best offensive player in basketball, he’s just big, and uses his size to get easy points and rebounds. The lakers beat that with Speed, awareness, and athleticism

  4. It's only one game yet People are overreacting…..Lakers won't shut down Jokic in a 7 game series….This is getting ridiculous….I know this is a feel good game for the Lakers after losing so many times. Playoffs will be different. I want an LA vs Denver first round Playoffs Matchup

  5. I think its safe to say that Hoop Venue matchs Thinking Basketball as the two best basketball analysis channels in Youtube

  6. I was so happy watching this game, usually offense grabs the spotlight, but I could only pay attention to how the players were moving around the field to deny Joker's offense.
Can anybody recommend some other games where a team (or both) play high level defense?

  7. I have been following JJ back since his Duke days. Just always been a fan of his. I'm so glad to see him doing so well after SO many people questioned and doubted him. The dude is an NBA and basketball savant. Sucks that the Mavs got rid of Luka but at least he has an organization that is 100% going to build around him and one of the smartest coaches in the league.

  8. Teams have done this before. It's not new, but it doesn't work consistently. They also have to hack Jokic more. MPJ had a horrible night. Doncic is only a 34.7 career 3 point shooter though. Is WS/48 are only .175 which is not even first team all league level. His career true shooting percentage is .587, but he does get a share of rebounds and assists along with that.

  9. Lmaooo buddy everyone has a off night, a team tanking has beat previous champs in plenty of games . That shythole state is not going to do anything.

  10. Didn't OKC do this similar defensive strategy earlier in the season where they limited Joker's touches with switchable defenders and forced others to beat them 🤔?

  11. Lakers' small ball isn't so small in my options. The shortest person is 6'5-6'6 Austin Reaves. Everyone else is 6'7 or above. That makes switching so easy. On the bench you have 3 more 6'7-6'9 bodies and a 6'2 point guard (Gabe Vincent) that play really good hustling defense.

  12. Question for smart laker fans:

If AD was still here, replacing jaxson hayes,
Will lakers be this good? Would they have beaten the nuggets this bad?

  13. The Lakers played an A tier game while the Nuggets played a C tier game and they only trailed by 9-11 points the whole game. Now imagine if the Nuggets played even a B tier let alone an A tier game. It's a wrap, Lakers have no chance in a 7 game series.
