It was Hayes who anchor the defense when lakers beat celtics last year without AD and Bron.
JJ wants more 3s, athleticism, intelligence, precision, and speed especially on D. AD is an all- time GREAT but he falls too often and teams take advantage often ,he also slows the pace on offense sometimes. With Luka as the hub instead, they can play faster more effeciently. Surprisingly, they dont lose much size. Hayes is a 7ft wing who plays center but behind him are a collection of small ball bigs w/Jemison and Len being the more physical, Koloko the most versatile, and Kleber and Morris being the shooters. It's possibly why Kleber returning might be the vital piece because of his DFS-like rapport with Luka, his underrated D and being the best shooter among them. So you lose AD and Max(who could be elite), you gain more depth and versatility…not to mention Stanley Johnson and Cole Swider with South Bay playing well, waiting for that call.
I always thought Anthony Davis sucked. His contribution rarely accounted for wins rarely were they anything substantial to be truthful in 2020 the reason we won the championship was because we got Jokić ejected and that was because of Dwight Howard Howard was doing all the dirty work AD got all the stats for the points, but it was really Dwight Howard that was the defensive presence.

I know this, the last few games have been an absolute joy to watch bc the team felt together and more then that were playing with more effort than the other team and that feels so good to see. They were literally everywhere on the court the whole game. swarming every opponent. It is incredible to see and I hope it continues. The nagging worry in my head keeps thinking, why don't all teams play with this much effort all the time. The fear I then feel says, what if its bc no one can play with that much effort all the time and so this will end. Yes, I do think this defense is a result of effort by all the Laker players, including Luka and Lebron. All I will say is, damn I hope they can keep it up.

This team is more versatile without AD. It's ok to say it. Their ceiling is higher, and they move faster. Small Ball is the way to go! And can play Jemison against the heavy bigs.
Alex Len 🗑️ he needs to get waived him and Morris then sign Koloco and Jameson then we have 3 Centers last waive Cam Reddish as well for Goodwin then we would be set. Len, Morris, & Reddish are all not getting playing time anyway and are on 1 year very minimum contracts. All three of them are out of the rotation I would say waive Shake Milton not Cam Reddish but Milton has a few more years left on his contract and it's a mid-level similar to Kleber I think they will be in a trade and gone next summer or next season and obviously the Lakers are not going to waive Bronny lol. That's what I think the Lakers should do tbh. Then we would also have three open two-way contracts available as well.

Match is the end of the buyout market so we will see what Rob Pelinka and the Los Angeles Lakers do but I think that's the best decision especially for the playoffs thats a championship contending roster. Last add three new 2 way contract players. Len, Morris, and Reddish all get waived i like Cam Reddish especially his defense and his athleticism but he is now out of the rotation and not getting pt anyway and all 3 players Len, Morris, and Reddish are just wasting roster spots and are on 1 year minimum deals anyway this will definitely help.
It was the DFS trade. I think it put the roster on notice they're gone if they don't at least put in effort defensively. Major culture shift getting rid of dlo

The best way to play this is to mark a couple schedule losses and rest all your key players for those games… Like for example the back to back game at Denver.
Also, Trev, LeBron and AR are playing above average defense… Infact Lebron is playing downright elite D… The DFS+Vando impact is rubbing off on the rest of the team… Heck even Luca is moving his feet laterally and getting steals by jumping the passing lanes

The most important aspect of acquiring Luka is that LeBron can now bail us out both offensively and defensively when needed
Because everyone is forced to play defense without thinking ad is there under the rim to bail them out you have heard players say it before that they can make more mistakes because ad is back there. And also it's the coaching staff scheme's and effort

Honestly a lob threat big with size thats decent on defense can be found in the draft, he doesnt even have to be elite. Just solid (a few ticks above jaxon hayes) This is one of the easiest types of roles for ANY big to fill in the modern nba. Look at how Hayes is excelling in it!! No need to spend assets on one, i think this is the scouting departments time to really shine.
The problem with the 4/5 seed is OKC sitting there in round 2. Drop to the 6 seed and Denver’s sitting there round one. The lakers somehow getting up to the 2/3 spot would be massive for this teams chances of making a decent playoff run
