It's great to play the TANKING JAZZ!!! They have no desire at all to win!.
1st off I was completely wrong as I didn’t think there was a way for Thompson and JD to be on the floor together and be successful. Thompson and Cade are excellent rebounders and rotational defenders and that has 100% gave JD confidence to rotate for blocks. For JDs contract extension I am fine with whatever he will take as he came in at 18 so an extension will put him through 26/27 and that is where athletic centers start to nose dive but we will get is complete prime and his chemistry with Cade can’t be just replaced, it’s special how in sync they are.
Ivey is my bigger question mark, is his body type and defensive effort a fit for the Pistons? THJ is not a good defender but at 6’6” solid body he is giving effort! Not saying he is our future starter but more the type of player maybe we swap Ivey for.
Ku condeming Duren at 20 y/o was something I never understood. It was obvious to me and i know nothing about BB that Duren was loaded with talent.
I think Drummond situation has blinded a lot of Pistons fans to how good Duren is going to be….
Drummond was an athlete who Detroit paid and tried to use their centerpiece to build around…huge mistake.
Duren is actually good at basketball things like passing, dribbling and setting picks. Plus he's not getting a max contract (though he will get a nice contract) nor is going to the centerpiece..rather he's the perfect role playing center to put with Cade who is our centerpiece.
I mean its pretty obvious when Duren not on the court our defense struggles when it's Paul Reed and our offense struggles when its Stewart. Duren gives us both balanced offense and defense.
Give Troy Weaver his flowers for drafting these guys and remember he never once got to pick the coach.
Duren's improvement is honestly hard to fathom. I described it early on as not quite a light switch, more like a dimmer being made brighter. But he's gone so far with it that it's become more like a lightswitch. It's wild to watch these guys improve on a game by game basis. I'm glad they got the coaching they wanted.
Can we appreciate the maturity of a young star publicly saying, "damn I'm the only one holding myself back" then declare they'll do better and then accomplish it?
It's refreshing to see
Not trying to throw cold water on this, as we have had probably the best 2-3 week stretch of pistons basketball in 15 years…. But we need to cool it with the duren discourse. He was quite literally the worst starting center in the league for about half the season, and he is still a below average center (I know he’s young). Yes the defense has been better, but in the last 12-15 games, we’ve played mostly bad teams (bulls twice, nets, hornets, jazz, injured clippers, spurs without Wemby etc). Yes we beat the Celtics, but jokic murdered us.
Giving him an extension would be incredibly risky and I think you wait another year before doing that. There is a very realistic chance that he gets totally picked on in the playoffs and then you just can’t give him big money at all. Obviously I would like for him to work out, but he is easily the bottom of the totum pole out of the young guys IMO. Beating up on Kyle filipowski is nice I guess, but we need to see it against Kat/PORZINGAS/GIANNIS/ turner (who is his kryptonite) in order for me to have any kind of confidence in him moving forward
Duren is so big I'm sure a lot of the 'effort' issues were about conditioning. Can you imagine being so physically imposing and still expected to have insane cardio strength and athleticism. The tight rope Duren has to walk to optimize his body is so thin.
I’m hoping we catch the Knicks or Indy in the first round. If we play Indy in the first round it’s gonna be electric in the arena
They are routinely pummeling the teams they need to beat. We are seriously living in a world where this team might actually be a tough out in the playoffs.
Also to answer your question, you give Duren as much as it takes. You have accredited guys around the league like JJ Reddick saying he can be a top 5 player in the league down the road. This in mind, you know Duren is a high-priority target for the Lakers in particular. Gotta do whatever you can to keep Duren and Ausar for the long haul. Same with Ivey and Beasley, but I don’t view them in the same light as a view the former
Quite simply, Duren looks quicker on his feet and thats really all he needed. His reaction time is catching up to the rest of the NBA and he's been putting on his best Drummund impression on defense but is he worth 100 mil now?? Maybe… Probably… Why not??
He already had the talent/skillset – Feels like the IQ is finally coming along.
A year ago a lot of folks were say Jalen wasn't the answer at center because he couldn't play defense – amazing what a real coach has meant to EVERYONE on this team.
Great pod ku
Never felt the season was over when Ivey fell. And lets not protect the Ivey-Stans Stu, the team has been better without Ivey.
Not saying they cant be better with Ivey in the futue, but lets not lie for the Ivey-Stans. This team soared when Ivey was out of the lineup. The metrics are there, you said it yourself, we have a top 7 defense and offense.
How about you do a video on that. How could the team improve without Ivey and why. SInce Ivey such a God to so many.
Ku, the bone we have to pick with you is not that Duren started slow and was in agreement with you, it's that DUREN WASN'T SAYING THE PISTONS MIGHT NEED TO TRADE HIM OR SHIP HIM OUT!!! This is the same thing you are doing to Ivey RIGHT NOW!!!. Just the other day with your guest you were both acting as if Ivey may need to be shipped out. YOU ARE WWAAAAYYY too impatient on these young guys and begin HINTING that we need to ship them out. It isn't even close whether or not we need to continue with Ivey, he is a budding young star and was having a wonderful breakout season, but if he isn't all Star material, yet you begin hinting at trading him instead of waiting a reasonable amount of time for growth, just as DUREN HAS SHOWN, yet you were doing the same to him just weeks ago. So no, Duren didn't think we might have to trade him because of a slow start in his 3rd season. STOP being so impatient and hinting that we need to get rid of young guys. That's what upsets many of us.
Congrats on the new career path!
5 yrs – 100 mill sounds good.
Ku…Next time you talk Ausar, tell him he needs to posterize defenders more with authority on his drives to the rim. It will energize the team and fans as well as draw more attention from opposing defenses. That respect will open passing lanes.
Duren was the last one to shake the losing mentality. The effort, preparation, focus etc needed to be a winner was not there early in the season. I think this needs to be covered more. Duren is 21 and only knew Losing. It took awhile for him to get winning tendencies. Now it’s a wrap!!!
Ausar is gonna eventually play himself into a max extension. I’m so nervous about the money situation, because Cade will be on a super max and Duren will have a big contract. Ausar will be a max. I’m not sure we can pay Ivey, Beasley, Stew and Holland. I believe if we keep all these guys we have a chance every year from 2 years on to compete for chips for the next 7 years.
The pistons have several young studs getting so much better mid season. You really don't want to play the pistons in the playoffs. Extremely dangerous team. Ball out boys. P.s would not be surprised to see them in the Eastern Conference finals
