Imagine the ownership group and Nico in what they call ‘the sitting room’.
It’s large, high ceilings, and bay windows overlooking forested woods below.
An architect would call it a library as there’s books loaded from the floor to ceiling on almost every wall, but whatever.
There’s about seven of them, standing around casually chatting, a few are sitting. Mostly men in suits and a few ladies.
There’s a subdued excitement feel in the air. Nico drops some ash from his cigar while tumblers clink with a few others.
Looks like bourbon neat mostly. A few smirks of delight cross their faces. Blaine of “Sixteen Candles” fame would fit right in here.
A butler ( yeah wtf?! ) nervously walks in carefully holding a 12” vinyl record with random asians on the cover, which looks beat-up, old.
He pulls out the record and puts it on a phonograph. Yes a phonograph.
He winds up the machine, he tinkers with a few levers, and shifts the large brass speaker horn thing toward the middle of the room.
Static and old-time weirdness reverberate quietly into the room. Then the music…
It sounds like experimental jazz from the 70s.
Is that Yoko, or maybe a sad crying owl mother that lost its babies, hooting into the night sky while staring wide-eyed at the stars above?
Strangely the tones coming from this throw-back machine phonograph thing are almost danceable though.
I could imagine a small gathering of Silverlake hipsters making a go of this, balancing their cocaine and cannabis intake with scientific perfection while flowing artlessly to the music.
The group somewhat quickly drop their languid ‘business class’ victory vibe and all of them focus their eyes on a box that the butler-man person is now opening.
But it’s not just a box, it’s a little coffin.
And in it is a dirty Cabbage Patch doll with a Dallas Mavericks jersey on it. Look it up if you don’t know what a Cabbage Patch doll look like.
Instead of a uniform number on the shirt there’s some other language or code in its place. Sanskrit, Hebrew, or some Native American thing, who knows.
But thing is a f**king voodoo doll.
There’s a handful of large pins in it in the arms and legs.
The butler-man, with reverence, puts the doll on a small stainless steal serving cart, rolls it into the center of the room, and now the everyone in the group are fixated on the doll in a semi-circle. Their hands, now empty, and arms straight down to their sides.
The butler walks up to the bay windows and watches closely as the last gasp of sun disappears behind the horizon.
One of the suited men, elderly, slowly removes all his clothing as he approaches the voodoo doll.
He raises his hands, palms up. A match is lit, sulfur is in the air, and it’s placed in his left hand. In the right hand, a glass of red wine? But it wreaks of gasoline and looks like blood.
The jazz tunes seem to get louder, as the butler pushes a button and the large windows automatically turn opaque.
We see nothing now. The end.

Kyrie might never player another game in a Mavs jersey. I can see him leave in summer. Mavs went from legit contender to "soon bottom of the west" within a month. Nico placed the Mavs' chips on AD's and Kyrie's health and he lost his bet. That would get you fired under normal circumstances.

Hard to be a fan.. Loved the Mavs even when we were not making playoffs with Dirk, Monta E., even Luka's earlier years. But now after all this, none of it makes sense. NOW all these injuries, meanwhile Luka is still putting up triple doubles even though he is "Out of shape" with the Lakers. This is wild and saddening.

As a football(soccer) fan… my team Arsenal draws some parallels to your Teams situation but it’s not as bad… we were close to winning to title last season like you guys, but our board weakened our squad this summer but selling and loaning decent role players without replacing em and when our team was riddled with injuries especially our attack they didn’t bring any players in and we lost our best player to injury too just not a season ending one… now we’ve pretty much lost any chances of winning a trophy this season… similar but not as bad
