The Los Angeles Lakers hosted their city rivals for the second time in a few days.

The Los Angeles Lakers are facing one of the toughest and most demanding months of this season. March brings them 17 games, including against the best teams in the league. To top it off, JJ Redick’s charges are having injury problems – two members of the starting five, Austin Reaves and Rui Hačimura, are missing, but they hope they won’t need a long rest.

For the second time in a few days, the Lakers, led by Luka Dončić, hosted their city rivals, who they defeated 106:102 on Saturday night after a real drama. Although the Slovenian star was questionable before the game, he still played. He made it clear with a three-pointer at the beginning of the game that he is very hot this time too. Another crazy pass to LeBron James followed and another three-pointer over Croatian center Ivica Zubac. The Lakers quickly took the initiative and led 34:28 after the first quarter, the only concern was the number of turnovers, which was already at 9 in this quarter, otherwise the lead could have been even higher. The fans were also worried when Dončić went to the locker room due to hip problems, but he soon returned to the bench and to the floor. The Clippers also had injury problems, as they were left without Norman Powell due to problems with the thigh muscle.

Alongside Dončić, who had a very good three-point shot this time, rookie Dalton Knecht also proved himself, while on the other hand, Kawhi Leonard kept the Clippers in the game and they only came close to a point behind Jezernik. But when Dončić returned to the game, a 10:0 run followed, and at halftime the home team led by 13 points (56:43). Dončić again made magic with baskets from impossible positions in the third quarter, and the Lakers were already leading by 21 points. James Harden reduced the deficit at the end of the third quarter, and the score was 89:77 with 12 minutes left.

The Clippers closed the gap to just 5 points at the beginning of the last quarter, followed by a three-pointer from LeBron James after another assist from Dončić. But there was no drama at the end of the game. Half a minute before the end, LeBron blocked Dunn, but the referees gave the ball back to the Clippers. They did not take advantage of this gift, and 8 seconds before the end, they managed to foul Dorian Finney-Smith.

Dončić scored 29 points, 9 assists and 6 assists in the game, Knech had 19 points, and LeBron James had 17, which means that he was one point shy of reaching a total of 50,000 points in the NBA, currently at 49,999. The Lakers, however, recorded their sixth consecutive victory after a 108:102 victory, and after Denver’s loss to Boston, they became the 2nd team in the West, thus silencing many critics who believed that the Lakers would even tremble for a place in the playoffs.
