I’m sold on Flagg as being the best prospect since LeBron. Lebron and Flagg only over Wemby because of significantly less future injury risk .
Flagg isn’t the best at any 1 thing
Shooting , athleticism, playmaking , Rebounding, passing, playing without the ball, guarding on the perimeter, protecting the rim etc but he’s the only prospect we’ve see at this age who doesn’t have specific flaw and is good to potentially great everything.
2. Why I’m betting on Flagg is because I think the majority of NBA fans overrate 2 things the most , physical ability and 1 vs 1 scoring/playmaking skill.
The league is as athletic as it’s ever been yet look who’s at the top
Jokic , drafted 2nd round because he was considered too slow and couldn’t jump
Giannis less 1 v 1 scoring skill than probably any other allstar
SGA not a crazy body or athleticism, underestimated potential because of the intangible of work ethic
Luka considered to slow to defend or get by defenders
Tatum , not the best at any one thing but like Flagg versatile and good at everything
Lebron not nearly the athlete he used to be but still at the top due to the intangibles of work ethic and IQ
Steph – was considered to small and would be physically dominated
Fans most popular players all time is the type that leads the league in scoring so when they win they call them the most talented all time
MJ, Lebron, Shaq , Kareem, Kobe, Durant ,Curry , Wilt , Dirk etc
But there’s another type of player like Duncan, Russell, Hakeem , Bird, Magic, Jokic, KG, Moses , Ben Wallace , Bill Walton , Dave Cowens , Havlicek , Kawhi etc who won championships as the best player but never lead the league in scoring and arguably never even top 3 all around scoring/playmaking talents
IF you’re talking about playmaking talent as 1 v 1 skills off the dribble /bag
The guys in the first category of being dominant scorers didn’t win because that’s the most important thing they won because that scoring ability was mixed incredible intangibles and their teams were constructed so that the playmaking was exactly what the TEAM needed .
My hottest takes are
1. Bill Russell proved that there is no goat in basketball because individual value is always dependent on TEAM context
2. If Warriors traded 2016 Draymond Green for 2016 Kyrie Irving it’d be a lose lose trade despite the fact Kyrie is way more skilled with a ball in his hands because both TEAMS would be losing something they in particular needed adding something that gets in the way of what they already have.
I’m sure San Antonio will get the 1st pick, because the league sure as hell ain’t ever letting Charlotte get it.
