Kevin Durant should go to OKC THUNDER to maximize his NBA career after Phoenix Suns

Jason Timpf answers a mailbag question on where Kevin Durant should go this summer, assuming he gets traded by the Phoenix Suns. He says the Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder are the two best options for KD, especially a pairing with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren.

  1. 2016 instead of the Thunder blowing that 3-1 lead to the Warriors, let’s say the Thunder get bounced out in the first round. If Durant joins the Warriors after they lose in the finals , that’s just a good move. People only hated Durant because he went to the Warriors right after he should’ve beat them. There’s nothing wrong with putting yourself in the best position to win but jeez, have some integrity about it.

  2. One of the all time greats no doubt, but utterly incapable of leading a championship team. Going to OKC and winning would simply solidify thay

  3. KD to OKC or MIN!!! HOU can’t get KD without Trading Green or Sengun bcuz PHX doesn’t want/need another Guard (VanVleet).

  4. As a Thunder fan, no, no, no, please God no. Not interested. Would hang up the phone immediately upon hearing Kevin Durant.

  5. Harden and Westbrook would also join KD. Both have player option on their contracts next year. Then they will bring Ibaka back from the European league. Kendrick Perkins will rejoin the league. Party Like It's 2012.

  6. ppl in the comments don’t watch ball all OKC needs to trade is three first round picks honestly two bc he’s a little older now

  7. Mail bag/back question: Jason, I truly enjoy your content, keep up the great work… I can say I am one of the casual fans cus I started watch NBA few years ago cus of Bron… So I might not be wayyyy too knowledgeable on some basketball stuffs…..

My question is relating to a comment you made late last year towards start of the season… You said separated the top tier contenders from a few other teams and said something along the lines of…. Some of the other teams could be great for a few weeks and bad for a few weeks… But it depends on the teams who can build a consistent habit of winning culture and separate themselves from the rest of the pack, thats the team that would be contenders….. Something along those lines…. Question is… With the Lakers winning record over these span of about 20 games and their defensive identity and attention to detail, can you say they have separated themselves from the pack and maybe not top tier contenders, but are contenders?

  8. What do you think about the possibility of Lebron taking a paycut or even a vet minimum to go below the salary cap? That alongside shedding some 10 mil contracts aswell would technically allow them to pursue a max contract free agent, but I feel like Myles Turner is the best option; pacers are reportedly hesistant to go to 30mil, maybe the lakers could do a sign and trade? Very interested to hear your take though and what kind of insights that brass tacks familiarity with professional hooping offers into teambuilding philosophy.

On a seperate note to clarify: I've always been a big Myles Turner guy, other players like Robert Williams or Clint Capela are better value and attainable with a MLE but to reach that Boston or OKC ceiling you need another decisive piece, the versatility of being able to draw a shot blocker like Chet out of the paint or switch it up with some pick and pop is worth that extra 10 mil a year for me and adding anything besides a center for the Lakers specifically seems redundant.

  9. I agree with you. playyoff contenders like OKC and Rockets have the assets of draft picks and young players that Matt Ishiba & Phoenix Suns really loves. I heard rumors that Rockets are already calling the Suns about KD availability after watching the LA Clippers and Suns today. Guess what Kyrie will also join KD's new team.

  10. Go to Houston !! Why would OKC kill a dynasty with a washed up player who has proven he can't win in the big games unless he's playing with Steph who didn't really need him anyways he was window dressing.

  11. Mailbag: big fan of the show I like using your takes to argue with my friends that actually sit and watch games but in all seriousness, I just wanted to get your opinion on N’Faly Dante he showed great athleticism and the potential to be a great rim protector and a nice roll man offensively in the game against the thunder on Monday, I think he can be a good player off the bench in portions of the game where it’s a lot of free flowing play and us rockets fans think he should play more what say you?

  12. Looking at the comments and Twitter majority of OKc fans don’t want KD back.

KD wants to be wanted.. and I think its perfect if he joins the Heat since the Heat fans want him and KD is also interested w/ the Heat.

  13. If he was a free agent.. mayyyybe but there is no way in hell i would blow up this team, which is what you would have to do to get him, for one year of KD he'll be what 38 or 39 by the end of next year
