I shoot good like this though so why should i change it
one thing ive noticed is a lot of NBA players catch the ball with their hands on the side of the ball and as they raise, their hands rotate and end up under the ball so this advice tracks IMO

This is false this is how I used to shoot and my new way is way better
There’s many ways to grip the ball to limit elbow flair. This is one way. Take it with a grain of salt. Discover and try different ways until you find one you prefer.
