If you’re on the Pistons coaching staff reading this, I hope some adjustments are made before the playoffs regarding the lead ball-handling duties after a made basket from our opponent. Go back and watch the tape and see how many seconds are left on the shot clock once Cade is finally able to cross half court and initiate the offense. This leads to lack of ball movement, poor shot selection, (great for THJ I guess) and a ton of steals and turnovers. I would really love to see Ausar bring the ball up where he looks for Duran at the top of the key, and the second pass from Duran is to a cutter or a dribble handoff P&R to Cade.
If I’m a coach on the other team, I’m telling my guys to pressure Cade full court, double him off of pick and rolls, and force him into bad shots or late passes to THJ. I would want to funnel the ball as much as possible to THJ or Tek when they are on the court with Cade. I would also game plan against in bound plays, and pressure the passer. Teams are getting a ton of bad turnovers against the Pistons when we are trying to inbound the ball. Lastly, if I was a coach on the other team I would attack Cade over and over again on offense or move the ball and force him to rotate on close outs.
Time and time again Cade gets lost in no man’s land not guarding anyone standing in the paint looking for a rebound. (I’m kinda sick of three of our guys fighting for rebounds with each other and the ball get lost out of bounds or accidentally tipped to the other team).
Unless we start addressing these issues, playoff coaches will scout the hell out of us and will exploit these opportunities to the fullest.
