Phoenix Suns Can’t Fight Back Against Rockets After Mason Plumlee-Steven Adams Scuffle

The Phoenix Suns had no answer for a third quarter Rockets run, losing 111-04 in Houston after a scuffle between Mason Plumlee and Steven Adams in the first half.

Brendon Kleen and Ben Garcia react to the L, including Bradley Beal’s tricky night and the first extended minutes for Ryan Dunn and Oso Ighodaro in months.

  1. Bradley Beal always looks like a guy playing a basketball player in a movie. A bunch of running around doing nothing but trying to look the part…

  2. Nobody gets up to play Devin booker…relax
Ppl want to hoop with kd and that’s it.
Once kd leaves it’ll be back to status quo

  3. I can't even name a team that the Suns have beaten outside of the Clippers, Pelicans, Hornets, Wizards this year.

  4. Ben Garcia, as usual, I disagree with you. The reason that teams aren't afraid of getting in the Suns' faces is not because their "soft", it's because they know that the refs are on their side. Steven Adams put Plumlee in a double armbar, then a bear hug, and started forcing him backward before pulling him to the floor. That was ALL ADAMS. Plumlee did the only thing he could by raising his elbow in Adams' face to push him away – and that one act of aggression got him tossed. (Adams would have gotten tossed anyway.) Had Plumlee maintained his COMPOSURE during the altercation, only Adams would have been tossed. After that, the Rockets were able to patiently dribble past the first and second lines of defense to get to the rim, where there was no rim protection and poor defensive rebounding. The Rockets got a lot of easy looks in the paint and second chance points in the second half. The "fight" decided the game.

I wrote a post after last game about how critical it is to maintain composure when the refs are obviously against you. It's not easy. Houston understood that they had the refs on their side and planned Adams' bear hug before the game started. It was a goon-style move, but it obviously worked out in Houston's favor. However – had the Suns maintained their MORALE, and rallied around Plumlee's decision to fight back during halftime, they could have come out ANGRY. Instead, the Suns lost their morale over the third quarter, and started to fade. Composure, composure, composure! The system is trying to bring you down! You have to get pissed off and fight back!

And Brendon, throwing shade on Beal – when he's been working hard to get back on the court, then breaks through with 25 points – isn't a good take. Beal was very important tonight; without him out there we would have lost by 20+. Can't you see that? And Bol should have played MORE, NOT LESS! Once Plumlee was out, who was protecting the rim? We needed him down there!

You guys have so many bad takes I lose count! And you're too negative. All you do is rip into people. "Boo-hoo! The rookies aren't getting enough minutes!" Sheesh.

  5. I’m going to say it over and over until I’m blue in the face. We need to trade Booker before other teams realize he’s a fraud. Booker ain’t him.

  6. Ladies and Gentlemen! I hereby announce the verdict! Mason Plumlee defeated Steven Adams by ippon! What does that mean? Mason Plumlee threw Steven Adams on his back and according to the rules of judo … jujitsu … bushido … karate … means the end of the fight and the loss of the one who was thrown on his back, i.e. Steven Adams! The winner of this fight was Mason Plumlee! Please give this fighter a standing ovation!
