The NBA And Cooper Flagg Have A Problem…

EVERYBODY in the NBA wants Cooper Flagg right now… I am a Nets fan so you better believe when the NBA draft lottery rolls around, I am going to be anxiously watching to see if my team ends up with a franchise changing player like Cooper Flagg but… things have gone too far. Some teams around the league are actively being investigated for trying to tank and throw games, all in an an effort to get the best lottery odds possible.

But what the Toronto Raptors just did, went too far.

  1. I’d say that if you are found guilty of tanking you are sent to right behind the lottery so instead of say the 6th odd you get the 15th pick and are taken out of the lottery.

  2. We sat our guys for one game because it was Portland and we had a back to back against Denver coming up. Don’t mention our name in the convo lol.

  3. Utah is the biggest offender by far of this, they've been doing it all season long and need to have their pick taken away or at least their odds lowered

  4. Maybe a rule could fix this by saying “for every game where a team is found to have clearly tanked unethically, their first round pick that year is moved back 1 spot in the draft after the lottery is drawn.” Only problem is I think most owners want this type of tanking to be around, so it’s unlikely it will change

  5. There is an easy fix, reduce the amount of games. 82 games is too many and many of the games feels worthless

  6. Make the rules more strict so infractions are clearer to call, every infraction worsens the team's odds in the lottery by a set %, rewarding "clean" teams and punishing cheating ones.

  7. Simple solution. Pre All-Star break losses drop you down the draft order. Post All-Star break (when teams give up because they're out of the post-season) then instead WINS drop you down the draft order. So basically post all star break wins will increase your draft order odds if you're in the lottery.

It works because teams on the cusp of making the post-season will want to win too. So they are incentivized to win to either make the post season or to have a better lottery instead of committing to losing which would give them crappy odds anyway

  8. Like you said. It'll always be an issue. Its as fixed as it ever will be.
The goal of dealing with tanking was to stop near half the league from obviously tanking the last 30 games which was happening in the back end of the 2010s. They flattened lottery odds and introduced the play in.
Nowadays, it's maybe 5 max teams actively tanking around the last 15 games to jostle for odds in the 4-7 slots

They were never going to be able to eliminate it, but they have reduced it from an egregious issue to a manageable one.
If they introduce new rules, teams will pivot, or find a workaround or loophole to still do it under new rules.

  9. Sporting Logically: So there's these four teams that have the best odds and a few teams competing for the fifth spot

Also Sporting Logically: Whenever it's time to mention an hypothetical team to get the 1 seed: So the Nets

Trying to speak it into existence… but we all know the one team that deserves the n°1 pick is the Spurs.

  10. Give me a break, tanking has been done for far too long with the league office not dealing with it effectively. Raptors just have a creative FO, nothing more. Look at the collection of draft picks held by just a few teams from 2025-31. What choice does Toronto have?
In fact I'd say they're taking a much more honorable way back to relevance than other teams who are actively tanking. This is the Raptors' one shot at high end talent for the short term future (5yrs). They'll be flirting with a good but not great or over the top roster unless they get a top pick this year. They're simply too good going into next year to have a top pick during Scottie's extension. If 76's got away with the "Process" then the Raptors aren't doing anything to really comment on as they are actively developing their 2024 picks just like Masai said at the beginning of the year.
Move along , no story here.

  11. NFL teams tank the final 1-2 games all the time. Sometimes a team replaces a quarterback who isn't ready in week 4. How is that different?

  12. Why you hating on Raptors and trying to get more attention to what they're doing? As a Nets fan you have skin in the game so seems biased.

  13. Out of the teams you mentioned, Philly, Utah, etc. Toronto is completing the most ethical tank. Singling them out as particularly egregious is wild. Toronto is playing their star player and alternating their starters between games. Other teams are flat out sitting their stars and starters. Toronto is also unique in that they are genuinely looking for depth and rotation pieces in their rookies and G League program because its the most viable option in the Toronto market. Msot of the games have been competitive and even closed out by the rookies and GLeaguers giving valuable experience to them. They run their offense, share the ball and focus on development. Meanwhile, if you look at Philly, they just ask Grimes to be Kobe – where is the development? That's not ethical. If you look at say…BROOKLYN for example – how many pieces on that current roster do you think are long term pieces when the Nets want to be competitive? – Basically none. You've always been a Raptors hater which is fine, but this targeted take is misinformed, out of touch and just kinda salty. In fact, the informed criticism about the raptors is that they've been taking half-measures and not tanking hard enough to compete with the other teams full out tank jobs – including brooklyn.

  14. This is an easy fix. Have the first team that misses out on the last playoff spot(9th) have the best odds at winning the draft lottery.

  15. If you get found guilty of tanking they should move your draft pick back a certain amount of spaces. Could be 3, could be 5. So regardless if you tank and get maybe the 5th pick, then get found guilty of tanking you get the 8th pick instead regardless of the lottery.

  16. NBA should do what the PWHL do to remove tanking, sans the points. The Gold Plan:

Proposed in the late-2000s by statistician Adam Gold, the ‘Gold Plan’ is also known as ‘Draft Order of Selection by Mathematical Elimination.’ The PWHL’s adaptation of the system rewards team success upon elimination from playoff contention.

Once a team is mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, it begins earning ‘Draft Order Points’ in all subsequent games (including all regular-season games that begin following a team's elimination), using the league’s standard points system that awards three points for a regulation win, two points for an overtime or shootout win, one point for an overtime or shootout loss, and zero points for a regulation loss. The team with the most Draft Order Points at the conclusion of the regular season will earn the first selection in each round of the draft. The non-playoff team with the fewest Draft Order Points will select second in each round of the draft.

If the two non-playoff teams tie for the most Draft Order Points, the first pick in each round of the draft will be awarded to the team with the most regulation wins after elimination. If still tied, the team with the most combined overtime and shootout wins post-elimination will earn the top pick. If still tied, the team with the fewest overall regular-season standings points will earn the first selection in the draft (e.g. the sixth-place team). If the teams finish with identical point totals in the regular-season, the league’s regular tiebreaker rules will be utilized to determine the team in sixth place. The league’s standings page will begin displaying Draft Order Points once a team is eliminated from playoff contention.

  17. Nets fans are delusional. Raps are the only tanking team that is winning games regardless. Nets don’t deserve anything after having Kd, Kyrie, and harden. Sorry to hear ur upset tho.

  18. I think what the raptors are doing is perfect. At this time of the year, paying customers dont necessarily want to win. They want to (a) see a competitive game involving their best players AND (b) develop the kids so that they're ready to win next season. What the Jazz and Sixers are doing is far worse.

  19. Bro take this video down I’ve never seen a snitch attempt like this in my life 🐀 have some shame…this is a bad look 🧀

  20. I think Jakob was still on a minutes restriction to be fair so that would leave being investigated for pulling just Scottie early I guess?

  21. Sports Tanking
    Basketball and Football
Each basketball team puts up 82 million, one million for each game
Each football team puts up 80 million, five million for each game.
That's one million forfeited for each game lost in basketball.
And five million forfeited for each lost in football.
    E.g. Basketball
Miami Heat wins 41 games but misses the playoffs with 14th worst record. Miami forfeits 41 million plus 1 million for best record of 14 non playoff teams.
Atlanta Hawks win 12 games and have worst record while missing playoffs. Atlanta forfeits 70 million plus 14 million for having worst record of the 14 non playoff teams. Atlanta would have to give another 2 million in this example having put up 82 million to start the season.
Each playoff team share in the millions forfeited, receiving 2 million for each playoff win. After the final championship game, the 16 playoff teams share remaining millions. Based on regular season wins, 16 pieces of the pie go to the best record while 1 piece goes to the worst regular season record in the playoffs.
If any ties, add the money up and divide by number of teams in tie of record.

    STOP THE TANKING!!

  22. Sports Draft:
-Champions get 1 ping pong ball
    -Best record gets 2 balls
    -Second best record gets 3
    -Etc.
-Worst record gets 30-32 balls depending on number of teams in their sport's league
-PLUS after team locks in their playoff position, they receive 1 extra ball for every extra win BUT every other team also receives another 1 ball
THIS gives top teams good reason to win last few games.
THIS prevents bottom teams from tanking throughout the year with great advantage of getting top draft pick
IF eventual Champions wins 3 extra games after locking in playoff position
Example of this would be –
    Champs get 4 balls
    Best record gets 5 balls
    Etc.
Worst team gets 35 balls, if 32 teams
A few teams could have locked in playoff position and win extra games therefore adding a great number of extra balls to every team. This increases their percentage of getting lottery draft pick.
-Number of NON-PLAYOFF teams equal lottery picks. After drawing draft positions for that number of teams, rest of teams will draft in order of worst record with champions drafting last unless drafting in those top lottery picks.
