Boston Celtics selling for a professional sports record $6.1 BILLION! Is NBA expansion next!?

Today’s word of the day is ’consortium’ as in the Boston Celtics as in the NBA as in ownership as in $6.1 billion. Wow. How are these teams being paid for? What does the future of ownership look like? Is expansion coming? The Los Angeles Angels have banned cell phones from the clubhouse. That will do the trick! The losing is over! Is ESPN looking to get back into business with MLB? Maybe! Review: Flow. NPPOD. Michigan had a problem. Now the former co-offensive coordinator has even bigger problems.

  1. Happy Friday. Have a great weekend. Please be civil, as we are all family. Study and learn what is really real. Share your opinions, and make the world a better place. This is the best baseball, sports business podcast. Period. Full stop.

  2. Re: March Madness, the audience might love upsets and Cinderellas early on, but we want them gone by the Final Four. The viewership numbers bore this out when FAU and San Diego State both made it that far a few years back.

That, incidentally, is part of why all the big name (or major conf) programs want to expand the tournament field.

  3. David i appreciate your take on the ESPN/MLB relationship but i still think ESPN not wanting the MLB (essentially) is a bigger indictment of the trajectory of the MLB than it is of ESPN

  4. Tje idea that without phone youre focused on something that helps the team in baseball is ludicrious. You can force them to stare into the field and all of them could be thinking anything but the game…

  5. ESPN has had MNF for almost 20 years, and a large part of that was unions! ABC and ESPN are both owned by Disney, but ABC has rich union deals, and when you see a sports broadcast on ABC, it will say "ESPN on ABC" in the upper right corner.
