Honestly, with all Pat Riley has done for Miami he can run things into the ground for about a decade before he's at the break-even point. The team sucks. Pat has made some bad moves, but we are only a few years outside of a finals appearance and people are crying and trying to crucify someone who brought the team to multiple championships.
He is declining, but my god it could be so much worse.

They had to make that trade because otherwise they wouldn’t even trade him in the end because nobody wanted to overpay. And if you remember their asking price was too high. However the most important thing for Riley and the organisation is that Butler is not there anymore.
I'm not sure why Pat Riley still works for Miami Heat. He has nine (9) NBA Championship rings, including one as an NBA player, one as an assistant coach, five as a head coach and two as President of the Heat.
