Shai literally averaged 32/8/9 on Luka last year. Their interior defense is why the mavs beat them. PJ and Lively were killing them. That’s not a problem this year. Mfs acting like shai can’t get a bucket on any mf in the league. Plus jdub has gotten much better then last year. Lakers not beating no okc in a 7 game series. Hell I don’t even think they beat Jokic in a series. Jackson Hayes can’t clamp both ihart and chet

Shai’s game does not translate to winning basketball in the playoffs. He either drives while grabbing the defenders arm or shoving his elbow into them to draw a foul either way, or overdribbles into contested shots. When it works in the regular season they get casual wins… but come playoff time they get exposed, and this year won’t be any different. He’s just such an unlikeable star player I don’t get how anyone can argue it. People enjoyed watching Harden and Trae bait fouls until the league corrected it? You guys are lame and stupid

OKC is doing great in the regular season but comes playoff I believe they need another star player to control and get his own buckets anytime player. What does Gil know about playoff success?
The reasons they lost to Dallas they addressed, in that series both teams averaged 106 points per game
– rebounding especially on the offensive glass, OKC were out rebounded 45-40 per game. So they were minus 5 on the boards. Cause Chet was the only 7 footer going against 2 7 foots in Lively and Gafford. Now they got ihart who’s averaging 11 boards per game. That’s been addressed.
-Defending lobs/defending the big men, that was also addressed with ihart cause in the non Chet minutes or when Chet was drawn out of the paint who’s going to protect the paint or disrupt lobs? That’s been addressed
– perimeter defence. Although they had ball hawks in that with Cason (who’s now playing more minutes), Dort, J dub. In that series Giddey was so bad they had to bench him and he averaged 12.6 minutes a game even though he averaged 25.1 minutes all season. And 31 MPG the season before. So minutes halved even though he’s your starting point guard… he was a cone on defence and Luka and Kyrie targeted him. So they addressed it by adding Caruso a NBA champion and 2x all defensive team
– Perimeter shooting. Giddey again he was so bad teams left him more wide open then they would leave Westbrook in LA. They addressed it in Alex Caruso who’s a career 37.6% from 3 even though he’s had a slow stat think he hit one for his first 20 but he’s gotten his percentage to a respectable 35% and looks like he’s getting into the rhythm and getting better, his last playoff series with Chicago he hit 39.1% from deep
– Ball handling. This is affected in two ways in those playoffs cause Giddey was so unplayable and was our point guard and his minutes halved we couldn’t rely on his regular ball handling when Shai was off the ball. Jalen was thrust into additional minutes handling he wasn’t used to. As a second year player also. Probably why his shooting percentages were so much lower. So how did they address this? Well Jalen became a number 2 option and ball handler and became an all star so he’s got all this additional experience now. They also addressed it with ihart. Who cause he’s a big man can help break down zones which teams put and would double Shai now he’s an additional outlet and can allow for dribble hand offs, more cuts and allow Shai or other players like Isiah joe, wiggins, Williams, Dort and Chet to get the ball.
– Non Shai scoring, again this was addressed above with Williams scoring increasing, as well as players like Aaron wiggins who’s been lights out so it’s been addressed via development and more handling responsibilities
– Screens. Sounds so simple but when okc only played with Chet who’s not known as a big player in terms of weight and size okc weren’t able to get as open as they can now unlike Dallas who had multiple screen options with PJ, Lively and Gafford to get Kyrie, and Luka space now that okc has added ihart it has unlocked everyone’s game from Shai to Williams to Wiggins. So they addressed that with one of the best threats in the league, who can also set the screen and pop out to hit his floater he doesn’t seem to ever miss
– offensive lob threat. When teams packed the paint on them in a zone cause they couldn’t penetrate they only had one lob threat who was Chet but he’d be stretching the floor out to the 3 sometimes. But now that you have ihart you have seen ihart to Chet lobs and vice versa. As well as Jalen Williams and iharts two man game that’s led to lobs. It allows so much more unpredictability.
Playoff experience: the thing people have Harped on the most. Last year it was evident probably why Giddey shit the bed and the other stars to as it was shais 3rd playoffs (1 as a rookie with clippers but they went against golden state with KD) then next with cp3 where they took the rockets to game 7 with harden and Westbrook and lost by a single possession. But dub and Giddey were second and 3rd season players in general and first playoffs. Chet and Cason were rookies and first playoffs as well as everyone else’s first playoff series besides Gordon but he wasn’t getting minutes. Well now they have their first run and have some what of na understanding but how did they address it? By adding a champion in Caruso who’s also a defensive leader. Added ihart who’s played 26 games in the playoffs who’s also a defensive leader.
Playoff whistle going away: seen a lot of shows saying well what’s Shai gonna do when the playoff whistle goes away it’s going to hurt his team? It’s literally the opposite shais numbers last year against Mavs was 32.2-8.0-7.3 on 50.7% FG and 55% from 3, probably not sustainable from 3 but that was on 8 free throws a game and he’s averaging more this season then that series. So if the whistle goes away that’s also gonna have to go away on OKC on defence and have you seen their defence??? That’s the oppositions worst nightmare if they take the whistle away cause they’re gonna be terrorist on defence. Whistle going away favours okc look at all their steals, blocks, deflections, loose balls recovered. Allow Carsuo, Wallace, Dort, ihart, Williams to play more aggressive defence then that’s bad news for the league not the other way round you might stop Shai getting 2/3 maybe 4 free throws but how many stops okc gonna get on the other end thanks to the whistle going away
So people who think this is the same okc are clearly casuals who don’t watch them cause all the issues they needed to address they have the only argument I can see is experience but other than that tell me why OKC isn’t favourites with the flexibility line up wise they can run cause even if they have a bad offensive night you gotta be able to score on their #1 defence also
There’s obviously a level of respect for OKC. DEN/LAL don’t think they’re going to be an easy matchup. But if they end up being the #2 and #3 seeds they’re going to kill each other in the WCSF and both of them are going to be battered going into the WCF.
