One day soon I'll try Playboi Carti since I'm going to The Weeknd's concert and he's the opening act. From the little I've heard, I can't say that I like his music, but I do understand the "lineage" Jalen spoke about and all the different things he's probably inspired by.
Music and art in general is a big cross pollination game anyway. Just like basketball became "positionless," music has been transitioning towards "genreless" for years now. A lot of that is due to the internet and people being exposed to things that previously would've been siloed to their region or some independent magazine you would've had to buy at a local shop.
I don't have to like everything to accept that there's some interesting developments happening in music. I prefer people trying things than the sounds becoming stagnant. I do wish some of these newer acts in hip hop cared a little bit more about lyricism, but that's ultimately a personal gripe. They can have their druggy rager vibe music all they want and I'll eventually check out some of it as my little science project.
