Iisalo created our offence and has shown when Jenkins hasn’t been in for games that he can win games for us. Jenkins makes really bad coaching decisions in tight games and it quite often costs us especially against the better teams. Against OKC yesterday he found a lineup that worked then subbed them out for Bane who was 1-12 and Vince who was a turnover machine and couldn’t keep the ball on the floor. 99-99 then one and a half minutes later they were down 15 pts
as a grizzlies fan, theres a stat where jaylen wells, ja, bane, jaren and edey were the best 5 man lineup but jenkins never played any of them 30 minutes resulting in dumb losses
I understand it. They expected to be better than they are and don't want to waste the season. Let go of the coach. Let them see it that lights a spark in the team. If not, then make changes in the off-season.
it still makes no sense to sack your head coach this close to playoffs. terrible move. my only thought is that it’s another udoka situation where he rubbed the front office the wrong way
they got toumas isalo, jenkins max out. he got readable plays specially in last shot, a iso on Ja top.. great firing give toumas playoffs experience before he go full time next year
I really don’t understand why they did this now, but if you watched multiple of their games you’d understand because his rotations are absolutely horrendous, and other parts of the game. Still don’t think this is a great move.
You guys really don’t have an idea how good that assistant is, the reason he’s getting the nod cause he basically dominated the euro league with his ‘run like hell’ type of tactic. I think this will be his prove you’re worth coaching an nba team. Shout out coach Jenkins though he a real g
i'm a grizz gan and i'm not confused, jenkins had no proper rotation, couldn't win clutch games and we just losing a bunch, now i'm just scared the whole squad will fall apart.
Interesting, grizzlies are one of my favorite teams to watch but it was obvious they were going nowhere in the playoffs so maybe this is a needed change
Adrian Griffin was a fumbling first year head coach, Taylor Jenkins is the winningest coach in Grizzlies history. Griffin was fired five games before the All-Star break, Jenkins was fired nine games before the PLAYOFFS. And the Grizzlies ARE, in fact, a playoff team. I didn’t agree with Griffin’s firing either, but this is night and day. What were they thinking???
He's struggled against playoff caliber teams, especially in the new year. The Grizzlies decided their ceiling under Jenkins was good enough to make the playoffs but nowhere near good enough to truly contend.
Let’s give the new coach about 9-10 regular season games to figure out his team going into the playoffs but possibly falling into the playin tournament. That’s a recipe for disaster for any interim coach.
It’s sad to see the coach’s getting all the blame in this day and age. As a lakers fan I even find this unhinged with how the lakers have been a revolving door of head coaches since Phil Jackson
Interestingly, most Grizzlies fans are cool with the firing, but national people are not. I think this is a good sign for us.
The Grizzlies have beaten ONE above .500 team since February and that was the hospital Mavs who started Kessler Edwards at center. The team has been in a downward spiral and it looks like Jenkins may have lost the locker room.
Reports are that the assistants hired (most notably Iisalo) you mentioned were Kleiman moves. He also apparently wanted to fire him last offseason. I think he may have tapped Iisalo as Jenkins' successor then already, but wanted to get a firsthand look to make sure it was the right fit.
I get the point on timing, but there were also rumblings that other NBA teams would look at Iisalo as head coach this offseason, so perhaps the Grizzlies wanted to get a head start on that. Like I said, I really think this was Kleiman's handpicked guy.
And this is why the grizzlies will NEVER be a championship winner and that team is a place where your career goes to die just like the wizards. They fired the best coach they’ve EVER had as if they weren’t a top 5 seed with him as head coach and it’s not like it’s a Steve kerr situation where he just had a super team or hall of famer. He had an insanely young team with 0 hall of famers as far as we know and helped them to a top 5 seed.

Coaches are always blamed for losing but rarely get credit for winning

Just when the Grizzlies organization looks like they are getting it together…
Why?

The Blazers should hire him.

If you actually watched the grizzlies this season . You wouldnt be surprised. They did it at the wrong time should've been did it
Well something internally happened anyone with a single brain cell can tell that. We just have to wait what happened
They should've waited after this Season
Wtf Memphis doing Taylor Jenkins is Good coach
When I saw this I was like what the heck
They have a genius assistant coach!!!!
That just ruins their chemistry

😂😂 Everybody shocked except Grizzlies fans
Wizards should grab him
Does anyone here watch/watched modern family?
Yeah they're definitely getting bounced in the 1st round

I hope the grizzlies lose every game this year because of this stupid move.

The reason was Ja Morant making himself more important than the team.
