Russell Westbrook has costly foul, ‘Not surprised’ by mistake, Jokic the MVP? | FIRST THINGS FIRST

Russell Westbrook missed a layup and committed a foul at the 3-point line which cost the Denver Nuggets against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Nick Wright, Chris Broussard, and Kevin Wildes discuss Westbrook’s career trajectory and what his performances mean for the Nuggets’ playoff aspirations. Plus, they ask if Nikola Jokic is the MVP after he put up a 60-point triple double and if Western Conference should be scared of the Golden State Warriors.

  1. Russ is not playing well. It's not just 1 game. He's averged 5 turnovers over the past 8 games. He's never been a good decision maker. Turnovers have always been a big issue him.

  2. I don’t know why this is so hard MVP vote is has always been a weighted vote, its goes

    1) Historic Accomplishment
    2) season stats
    3) season wins
    4) team make up

  3. I am a Jokic fan and apologist. He was deserving of his three MVPs and was as good as anyone in 2023. Shai is going to win this year and that’s okay. A 17.5 difference in the W column is enough to be the deciding factor.

  4. The story of Jokic vs the NBA (and it's media) is the story of David vs the racist corrupted Goliath pushing a political agenda.
And Nick is the deformed faced rat in Goliath's pocket.

  5. Implying that Jokic has a better team surrounding him than SGA is a take, and I say that with no real preference for who wins MVP.

  6. As a Laker's fan I just want to thank Russ. Not only did he single handely cost Denver the game, but he helped the Lakers be half game from third, actually now of today's standing update, the Lakers are now in third place. You played double overtime and the next game is waiting for you under less than 24 hours later and coach Malone decided to not play the starters which it cost them another game vs the Spurs who don't have their star players playing. 2 very costly games had they just win just one of the games which they should have won against the Twolves. I hope they continue to play Russ at crunch time. I remember when Russ was with the Clippers, Ty Lue would not play Russ under 5 minutes left in the 4th quarter. He must have known he can single handily cost you games.

  7. Thinking that the nuggets is ridiculous lol. Nuggets are a bottom 3 team without Jokic. Shai has the best supporting cast in the league. Doesn’t matter there age lol

  8. When will the NBA just admit they won’t give MVP to players too many times 😂 even if they deserve it or else lebron would have much much more 😂

  9. i like nick but it’s hilarious how he’s so mad about people switching their mvp criteria to vote for jokic back to back and then openly says how he switched his criteria from last year to this year to not vote for jokic😭😭

  10. All I have to say is I have watched this movie before. Everyone is gonna say Jokic shouldn't get it even though he statistically should. Does anyone else remember the ending. Cause I do. 😂 SGA is averaging two points more than Jokic a game with a lower fg% than Jokic. Jokic beats him in almost every other category. I just don't get it. 😂

  11. BEANTOWN BOMBERS BABY! ONLY delusional folks do not realize that it's about to be a three-peat for the mighty leprechaun💪🏿☘☘☘🍻🏆

  12. Jokic is the MVP again and yes he is white. White boys are dominating basketball and emotional jungle culture can't handle it

  13. The guy really said "you can make case for Jokic" based on stats. What do you mean you can make case??? Hes having a historic season, hes literally smoking him in stats. Only argument shai has is team wins, and even that one is trash, since its individual award, its not like Jokic won 20 games and is 10th seed.

  14. "When it's this close…" he said. IT ISN'T lol. You are just biased. We all know who the best player in the league is,and it ain't SGA

  15. I hate to agree with Nick, but he is correct about Russ… Russ can play great, but his career is about not playing winning basketball in the playoffs.

  16. Perry Mason shout out in 2025? Brou is single-handedly educating Gen Z on pop culture history. Never change, Brou. Never change.

  17. Good on Wildes roasting the mega Bronsexual Nick Wright. I know he wishes held on to the object of his affection for even longer than he did.

  18. Russ was amazing example you americans do not want to admit. Athleticism can not beat Jokics basketball IQ, end of story. Jokic will never miss, or make faul as Russ did. Thats why Jokic will be GOAT of basketball.

  19. Hysterical how they keep bringing up team success for why a player is the Most Valuable. Why not just rename it to “Best Player on the Best Team” Award? Oh yeah! Because these 0-knowledge fools would have had to vote for Jokic over Embiid 2 years ago. If they didn’t have double standards they wouldn’t have any.
