Interpretation of Perk:
In this season of ups and downs, Malone has consistently pushed blamed on the players. The "lack of effort" complaint was responded by management with one of the most prolific hustler in the game, Russell Westbrook, and it seems to have turned heads sometimes even without Jamal Murray. They were in contention for the #2 seed at one point. But without Murray's 20+ per game due to injury, Denver skid dropped them down to "play-in" seedings.
If management has done absolutely all they can to "upgrade" this team until all hands are tied, remember Denver already lost 3 future first round drafts…..than this is the best team Denver Nuggets can put together. So if the complaint is still a "lack of effort" than what else can Denver Nuggets do????
In defense of Mike Malone:
Malone has been very welcoming of Westbrook. With a full roster, this team can compete for the title. For one, Westbrook has been playing solid minus the few final second blunders. Second, when Murray comes back, Westbrook will not have to make the final second clutch shots. He won't even be the focus. So this is not about 2025 as mentioned on the press release.
What the Denver Nugget's owner did was build an indefensible clause for the current and future success of the team. By releasing them at this time, they will be severed from all Denver Nugget's future success. Brilliant move in a Machiavelli way, unless this team straight up fails.
What happens if this Denver Nugget squad (with a healthy Murray) goes all the way to the finals? It's the absence of the toxicity between Malone and Booth.
And if they fail this year and next? Because the owners fucked up.
