The players back then were definitely less skilled and athletic compared to what they are now, but they were the best for their time. Evolution happens all throughout the world, and it happens in sports such as basketball as well. Personally, I think that Air Jordan is the GOAT, but I know that the players he played against weren’t as skilled as what they are now, and relied on the physicality of their era to get stops on defense, which is perfectly fine then, but not now. Whatever you grow up watching is what you’re naturally going to imitate on the court, so players back then didn’t develop a three point game or flashy handles, as that’s not what they were accustomed to. Also, the rules wouldn’t allow for certain moves that we see in the modern nba to be executed, as it would be called a carry, travel, or some other violation. Overall, basketball is a sport that will continue to evolve and breed more skilled players, but older generations are always going to swear their generation was the best. Godbless everyone.

The difference between nba and every other American sports association is the up and coming have hardly any respect for the older guys. Youll never catch a new running back say hed love to see ray lewis in the hole. Or a baseball player saying hed love to get in the box with Mo Rivera on the mound. Anthony Edwards would go to the paint one time in the 80s and end up on his damn neck and think about every move he makes for the next 10 seasons very wisely.

People really dont understand Michael was a great defender and an EVEN BETTER slasher when he was in the early parts of his career. I remember sitting down with my moms ex boyfriend when i was like 13 watching highlight reels and he said "This is why mike was so ahead of his time." MJ could go up and SLAM IT ON ANYONES FACE like lebron james does right now. Literally ANYONE at ANY TIME. He couldnt shoot the 3 ball for the life of him early on in his career, but it didnt matter because like i said before he could just go up and jam it on anyones face at any given time. Theres very few players through out history that were literally FEARED by other players. MJ was truly the very first one that EVERYONE feared in an era where Larry Bird and Magic Johnson used to have semi pro MMA fights where they would throw elbows at each other in the paint on the low block every single time they played each other all night long.
