Refs won't eject disrespectful fans from the arena so at one point the players had to. Now those same refs are ejecting players for engaging or responding. Make it make sense, because that seemed like the ref had to cover a point spread…

You can always say “I was talking to the guy behind you” when talking to the ref, so the ref has to treat it as he’s talking to him. It’s the players responsibility even though he was clearly talking to the fan, it’s a warranted T.

The bad part about this is how the refs encourages the fans to do this if the consequences is the opposite star players being ejected, who's to say they will stop at small remarks and not push it to get their own team the advantage. Fans never had this much power to influence the game, not even the opposite team can influence the game the same way.
