Perk is doing this to try to gain favor back with Boston and the current Boston players. He dragged Tatum and brown for several seasons. He wanted to blow up the team a few years ago

I think Tatum doesnāt get the ārespectā Perk looking for because heās always had a dominant team. Every other guy who was THE guy and talked about like that carried his team. Tatum never had the burden or pressure of it being on him. Hes always had a lot of help, on both sides. Heās a great talent but never had to struggle bc his teamās always been so good. Thatās the key part thatās missing in these debates.

What Shannon said is flat-out ridiculous. So because a player shines over five games, heās suddenly the best on the team? Thatās what weāre doing now? By that logic, Julian Edelman mustāve been better than Tom Brady since he won Super Bowl MVP, right? After 82 regular-season games and 14 in the playoffs, youāre telling me nine games are enough to override everything else? No way Shannon actually believes that. Heās too sharp for that take, which makes it even more disappointing.
And then thereās Brian Windhorst, being slick with the way heās talking about Tatum and the Olympics. Heās not outright blaming Tatum, but heās clearly running interference for Steve Kerr, trying to justify why Tatum didnāt see the floor. Acting like Tatum is just a catch-and-shoot guy, as if heās not a 6'10" three-level scorer who defends and creates. And Windy keeps bringing up Serbiaās size like it was some overwhelming issue. OK, but who was on the floor? Steph, Derrick White, Jrue Holiday. Tatum is bigger than all of them. And he wasnāt just big in size ā heās a versatile defender who guards 1 through 5.
Letās not forget: in the Finals, he was guarding the Mavs' bigs and completely shut down their lob threat. He erased that entire part of their offense. But somehow, that guy wasnāt worth playing in an international game where size and switching mattered? Please.
This wasnāt about fit or strategy. It was a coaching decision built on a shaky narrative, and Windy is trying to make it sound logical after the fact.
And we all saw how the game ended. It went down to the wire. The players werenāt even listening to the coaching staff by the end ā they were looking to Carmelo Anthony, who was just a spectator on the sidelines, for direction. That tells you everything you need to know.
