As for the mom having a son and changing her behavior. I also believe she would dismiss certain things from her son as well.
Had a buddy whose mom didn’t attend any of his events from kindergarten through high school. It was weird, all of our parents showing up, even those that were divorced still made time for some of the events.
Fast forward, he spiraled down in the life. I thanked my parents for making the attempts when possible and having conversations on why they couldn’t attend. Or why things were the way they were in our home.
