Maybe its as simple as Nico just doesn't like white players/people. I mean as long as there has been sport there has been bigotry, and its ALWAYS BEEN WRONG AND STUPID in all of its forms. The Nuggets won with Jokic, the Lakers won with old Lebron, and the Mavs won with Nowitzki. None of these guys were top defenders, but they were the best players in championship teams. Defense is important,but it doesn't mean that every single player on the team has to be a lock defender. The Mavs are worse off in the short and long term without Luka.
Seeing what this idiot has done to this franchise makes me even more blessed to have Sam for my thunder if I wasn’t a thunder fan and also had a deep hate towards the Lakers I would be rooting for Luka to win it all not just because I like him but also because I want to see Nico Harrison fail for destroying that franchise

This is a reality TV and soap opera train wreck. Mavs former fans are going to tune in. I do think you are seeing people care much less about the actual basketball part of this team. Nico doesn’t have the war chest to make trades or moves. You can’t get great players without trade assets unless you are the Mavs and trade away Luka. They are selling hope-ium like Jerry Jones does. We all know in the history of the NBA teams don’t go on to win championships with Mavs level of talent. This isn’t the USA 1980 hockey team. They will keep doubling down until they run this team into the ground and have to rebuild which will take 5-10years. Nico will be long gone and won’t care. Dumont doesn’t care, he isn’t apart of Dallas. Why would a fan invest in a team that likely won’t be really competitive to 2035 to 2040???

"We don't know what we don't know" is the smartest most accurate statement offered by anyone other than Nico regarding this entire situation. Clearly fans want to know the behind the scenes details & 'dirt' on why the decision was made so abruptly, so secretly. Nico knows if he gives the fans what they want, it'll only insanely backfire into 'trashing' a beloved former employee. We've already seen a glimpse of this.
The substance of Nico's messaging really isn't anything surprising. It's how it's articulated. Like, when asked if he has a duty to the fans, he could say "Of course I do. It's the same duty that I have to the Mavericks. To build the best team possible. I owe my best to our fans and supporters and the Mav's organization alike." It's basically the same thing as what he said, but doesn't generate the viral quote that makes them look so bad. Hire a PR firm already!

I'm in the camp of being a detached Mavs fan. Ive maybe watched 2 or 3 games since the trade, still keep up with the show though to keep tabs on things. It's kind of like my Cowboys fandom. It feels wrong rooting for another team, but after a certain point I need to protect my peace.
