What Everyone Got Wrong About Grizzlies New Coach
There’s a lot of misconceptions about Taylor Jenkins replacement in Memphis—Tuomas Iisalo. For starters, his preferred offensive system relies heavily on pick-and-roll action, something the Grizzlies completely ignored this season, which made their own leader Ja Morant frustrated. Let’s break down Tuomas Iisalo is actually all about and how he might change Memphis Grizzlies in the long run.

Great video bro
In Bonn he doesn’t change the basketball team – but also the whole organization was transferd to a new and better style of work. And it pays off a hundred times – we still miss him
Great Grizz org self-awareness. This appears to be a style change however I’m all for the Euro mentality in general of basic skill proficiency and emphasis on team play. I hope this mentality can save this sport that is quickly turning into a circus on this side of the world with overhyped, social media hogging, immature ego-centric stars. Gone are the Jordans, Jay Wrights, Pat Rileys, Dick Bennetts, and leaving are the LeBrons and Steph’s. Wake up USA basketball (not meaning the organization)!! The top 5 players in the world right now are super-fundamentally sound and are NOT American!!
53 Bonn oder was
As a Bonner you miss him a lot, of course, but I hope he finds his feet in the NBA!
Great video! Thanks for the education.
Great video I now know much better the truth about the Memphis decision-making behind firing Jenkins
Man coaching seems so stressful OMG
I can say as a nordic guy that there's nothing new that people underestimate Nordic countries/some team just by their roster when people are talking about team sports. Nordic people are analytical, well educated and have critical way of thinking most of the time.
Andrew Flintoff is coaching the grizzlies 🤯😂
Yea i dont see this working in the NBA. This is not Europe, These are players getting paid millions with egos
Pretty good Video and i Think iisalo has all the Tools, but his Star Player Morant is dumb Like an Egg and thats a massive Problem which could Break iisalos neck
Great video
just wait until they get swept in the 1st round, it's going to get real quiet
This was a terrible decision. If they wanted to keep Tuomas Iisalo in Memphis, they would have had first dibs on him after the playoffs anyways. Also, with all the changes just before the playoffs, theyre surely doomed in the post season, which will erode trust in him next year. Also given their success this year in a very competitive west, they would have had a decent post season now that the team is healthy! Sometimes management feels they need to do something, and end up just messing things up further. They should have just waited. Great video though!
The GM Zach Kleiman is a huge douche https://youtu.be/hieSlnE98Ec?si=ZvSDkt5iNdufk5RF
I was amazed at what he did with a really small team in Germany. What an amazing career! Wishing him all the best, even though Memphis is meh…
lol going to Simmons …. So called experts 😂 perfect 👏🏽
Very informative, I live in Memphis and didn’t even know about the Noah LaRoche guy and his new offense 🤦🏽♂️
Just found your channel and I'm really enjoying the content. As you can probably tell from my avatar, I'm a Grizzlies fan and I admit I had no idea who Iisalo was until Jenkins was fired. I really appreciate the context regarding his resume and basketball philosophy. Now, I'm actually excited to see how the Grizzlies offense changes in the near future as he implements this apparently crazy successful system (assuming he gets the job permanently). Subbed.
What do you mean unexpected? This guy is proven winner. Best coach in Europe and propably soon the world too. Got huge pay already as assistant coach, which is not common.
Not surprising at all. Guy is literally genius. And very likeable.
This is something NHL should copy. Some very good coaches in Europe but no one is brave enough to try one.
He knows how to be a leader. His grandfather and his both brothers fought in the WWll. His grandfather was nominated for Mannerheim Cross, the highest merit for a Finnish soldier can receive, but did not get one. His grandfathers both brothers are receipents of the Mannerheim Cross. The Finnish version of Medal of Honor.
Tuomas knows how to be an underdog and get the best out of every team member.
Concatulations Memphis.
Must have had a real hum dinger of a halftime talk last night. Wow, 52-25 in the third, not Memphis. Reinforces my opinion of this coach. Hopefully won't be back next year. I can tell you exactly what he said and why it went so wrong. Quite comical actually. People don't know what good basketball looks like. And, I didn't even watch the game. Just looking at the stats. I'll give hint, Zach Edey.
NBA is a sleeping pill full of princecess
Its awesome to see him in the league! Greets from Finland.
Yesss! Cell phone bans for sure do good for all! ❤
Your bb knowledge is very high level. Most people didnt know Iisalo at all and you know how he want team to play and what methods he like to use. Ofc we here in Finland know his style and how good he is. Memphis is very lucky to have him. Only problem what may come from this is if star players are so spoiled brats (most of them are) that they dont want Iisalos brutal honesty style.
Opponents do not know their tactics in coming next few games. Which will be beneficial to Memhis.
Knowing americans i wouldn't be surprised if he would be sacked after this season already.
suomi mainittu!!
He isn't brutally honest, he is a Finn. We don't chit-chat. Honestly, our culture or even language doesn't have small talk, we are very quiet – but when a Finn talks, you listen.
The teams internal trust side of things is enormously important and overlooked in global team sports. Tuomas will build one hell of a tough bunch, where every guy trusts each other, the team and the coach.
Vitusti tsemii, hyvin sä vedät.
Screwed up end of regular.
Kawamura will flourish with this offense
