Cam thomas is a max player and a key piece to the nets future
Cam Thomas is Draft Night trade (imo)
Must keeps for the future are both cams and clax
I’ve been a develop Thomas guy and Claxton but honestly Claxton has disappointed this year. In year that really didn’t matter I wanted to see Claxton expand himself offensively and it didn’t happen.
Thomas is a more interesting question. He is not a point guard. He is a short shooting guard who probably will never be a great defensive player. If you draft Dylan Harper is that a combo that would work? Maybe since Dylan Harper is a 6”6 point guard. The other issue is salary floor. You kind have to pay someone even if that means dealing them later down the road. However if you’re looking to tank another season Cam Thomas is probably too good when healthy to allow that goal to come to fruition. If Thomas is healthy the majority of this season they are probably winning another five or six games this season putting them in worse shape lottery wise.
People need to understand that the nets pretty much have all the leverage on free agency next year. They’re are one of maybe two teams that has any money so Cam Thomas could want $100 million all he wants the nets should not be bidding against themselves when they’re practically the only team with any money to give him.
This is not a good year to be a free agent. In teams are also gonna want to be saving their money for next free agent year where they’re gonna be a lot more stars coming and hitting the market. So as much as I love Cam Thomas, we’re in a rebuild and I would just give him one offer dude three years $15 million a year take it or leave it. Because I think Doug’s correct, who’s paying Cam Thomas next free agency $20 million dollars per year?
There are so many big man prospects that will be in the Nets range that honestly I’m not sure it’s worth keeping Sharpe at all. I like the improvement Sharpe has made from a shooting standpoint but at the end of the day he is an undersized center that doesn’t block a ton of shots and isn’t super athletic. Here are some available draft guys:
Queen
Malach
Wolf
Williams
One issue with Cam Thomas is his size. He would be more effective if the Nets had a taller point guard alongside him. Another concern is his durability, which remains an open question.
Must get rid of's for the future, both Cams and Clax.
Look at the deal Vassell got, cam is much better but once again do the nets feel that way?
