Donovan Mitchell goes WILD in the 4Q to save the Cleveland Cavaliers; take 2-0 series lead over Heat

Donovan Mitchell delivered when the Cleveland Cavaliers needed him most.

After the Miami Heat seized momentum and appeared on the verge of possibly tying the series, Mitchell took over. He scored Cleveland’s next eight points and the Cavaliers held on for a 121-112 victory on Wednesday night for a 2-0 lead in their Eastern Conference first-round series.

“I love the fact the game happened like this. We had to really find a way as a group and then we responded,” said Mitchell, who led Cleveland with 30 points, including 17 in the fourth quarter. “I kept trying to find the mismatch and make a play.”

It was the 27th career playoff game with at least 30 points for Mitchell, who also had six rebounds and six assists.

“He’s a superstar for a reason. It’s kind of like there is nothing you can do in the NBA sometimes when someone is hitting tough shots like that,” said Miami’s Davion Mitchell, who scored 18 points.

The Cavaliers had a 19-point lead with under 3 minutes remaining in the third quarter before the Heat made their run to get within 105-103 lead with 3:11 left.

Mitchell responded on the ensuing trip by driving and making a step-back floater to put the Cavs up by four. | https://www.espn.com/nba/recap/_/gameId/401768035

  1. Every time theres one big on the floor it seems like they're going up against three guys every rebound lol. The guards need to box tf out

  2. This team will lose to Boston if we don't do something about the poor rebounding/2nd chance buckets we give up. You can't give the Celtics that many shots. It's like we're allergic to boxing out. It's enraging.

  3. Two playoff games zero points guess who i am? Here's a hint: i can make shots but refuse to take shots. obviously I suck who am?

  4. It's cute how bull tries to act like he knows what he's talking about. Only to have the other 2 set him straight. Bull's a fool.

  5. Look, good teams, that know they're superior to the opponent, esp when ahead by so much, will "relax" a bit, to preserve energy, and turn it on if they MUST. They got it done, and when it got down to two points, I said to my bro "OK, Donovan Mitchell had better make his presence known." He did, it's OK.

  6. There are great teams who have 10 min spans of bad play for sure. History doesn't remember them because they still find a way to WIN, which we did last night. 2-0 let's get 2 more!

  7. 16:10 mind you after the chellenge waa overturned. They made them jump ball at center court. Even though Mobley had clear possession on the rebound. Refs were on one last night

  8. Look if Donovan takes over, the rest of the team won't have stats during that time.

Darius played well. A number of guys were playing good defense down the stretch in the 4th. It's OK to have Mitchell just be a 1 man wrecking crew now and then.

The only problem was the rebounding during that 18-3 stretch you guys mentioned. That needs cleaned up. But as a whole, good effort by the Cavs.

  9. They talking about Darius and Mobely but didn't say hell Ty Jerome has to score more than 6-7pts a game Mr 6 Man thats what went wrong 🤦🏻‍♂️

  10. It was one of the worst officiated games of the year. With an average crew, they wouldve won by 15-20

  11. Boston went on a 10 min stretch against Orlando in game 1 where they had a 10plus point lead and then Orlando took the lead in the second quarter.

    Cavs will be fine.

  12. Cavs up 2-0 in the series, already poo pooing the play. They don't say anything negative about any other team, but complain about everything Cava!

  13. Looks like Hunter was a major fumble. Just to make a move he did that. What a Crying shame. The CAVs bench is bare.
